On this date in 1991, Edward T. Stewart of Dodge City, Kansas received a U.S. Patent for his invention, a compact and simple to use vacuum pump to cause a man’s penis to become engorged with blood, thus creating an erection. When erect, the male can trap the blood in the penis, withdraw from the pump, and proceed with intercourse. Source: link
