Do we have any atheists or agnostics here?

I have been a proud agnostic for about 3 years (however, I do respect all religions - I just do not believe their teachings), and I wanted to see if there are any other atheists/agnostics/ske ptics/humanists/nonbel ievers here!!

I'm agnostic. It's a biproduct of my mother, stepfather and stepfather's mother all being pagan, and my mother's family being catholic. Wicca was my first exposure to religion, but I was sent to catholic school because my mother wanted me to make up my own mind about what I chose to believe.

I'm an atheist. I've read and watched quite a bit about the subject but I didn't start my research in on things before coming to the conclusions that 1) there probably isn't a god and 2) if there is a god, he or she is not worthy of worship. I dislike the current trends in US politics that pander to the religious right, but I do not assume that every religious person I meet share those same views. At the end of the day, people are people.

I'm an agnostic and I consider myself a secular humanist too... but since I could only choose one, I went with agnostic, since I'm not actually affiliated with a secular humanist group.

I'm an atheist but,I read the bible and believe in moral teachings.I sometimes think of myself as 'a bad atheist' because I enjoy conservative christian preaching and/or teaching so much more then a lot of christians I know.I'm just weird.

*raises hand.

once considered myself a pagan buddhist agnostic.

or something like that.

i believe in the force of the universe, that moves through all things and unites them. or something like that. i don't believe death is the end of the spirit. i don't believe in a god that has rules and frowns on people for this or that. or even a god that could frown.
the universe just is.

I've been teased about being "religious but not spiritual," while a lot of religious folks who dislike the organized aspects of religion call themselves "spiritual but not religious." I think there is a lot of good to be found in religion, at least on the small scale... just not theism.

Atheist....and I have a hilarious story about that.

I live in a highly Mormon area, not knocking it, to each their own. But Mormon's do like to share a lot about their religion and this gal asked me if I would like to come to church with her since I was new to the area. I thanked her and said no thank you. When she began to push a little harder I told her that I was atheist. She looked shocked and said

"What? Really? But you are SUCH a nice person!"

I dont believe that there's one big sentient being out there but I do believe in alot of the paranormal and the energy in the universe. Honestly I think it's quite arrogant of us to believe that if there were a "God" he would care about us over all the other creatures in the universe, why are we so damn important?

I think a PRIVATE response poll here would have gotten a LOT more responses. Good question, but some people don't feel inclined to respond publicly to a "sensitive" question.

Im an atheist raised from a catholic mother and baptist father. Both who fully support my decision and whose decision to believe I respect. I do not try to convince others that they are wrong, it isnt my place. But I do wish others would try not convince me I am wrong, or say I am not a moral person and can not be trusted because I am atheist. I hear ridiculous things from religious people about how atheists dont know right and wrong or dont do charity etc etc... Im one of the most charitable people you will ever meet period. I have a moral compass, I know right from wrong, and I respect people.

Im a person of science, I believe we came from exploded stars. A complete accident. Im content knowing when I die thats it. Im not afraid. If Im wrong and there is a god I do not want to be among him and his people who disregard others so easily and chooses his company by wither or not you throw all your faith behind him. No one should be scared into faith.

Atheist. I was raised Lutheran, but I always felt out of place and asked too many questions for my church.

LOL. I recently saw a church sign that said, "God favors nice atheists over hateful Christians." Hilarious.

That's the last thing to tell someone who is pressuring you about religion if you want them to stop. Then they feel like it's their job to "save" you.

When asked, I say I'm nonthiest. It doesn't seem to provoke the reaction that saying you're athiest does.

Neither of these. Sometimes I tend to question my faith, and have a lot of unanswered questions, but I believe.

I don't believe there is a god, but I don't believe there is no god. Some would say I'm agnostic, but I prefer to say I'm a logical atheist.

Atheist.

Also agreed that a private poll would have been better.

Don't really consider myself anything. I used to claim agnostic but overall I find I'm indifferent to all of it beyond a philosophical and/or educational sphere. I like to study things and learn about the beliefs of them but don't necessarily care about the belief itself or have faith in it.

I consider myself an agnostic with leanings towards a pagan spin on things. I have a theory that religion exists because man needed something to govern himself that could be seen as omnipotent and everlasting and to also explain natural occurrences like birth, death, sickness, weather and that kind of thing.
