Do you eat "kids" meals when you go out?

Contributor: Peggi Peggi
On occasion, I will buy a Happy Meal when I go to McDonalds. Typically, I will do this if I love the toy that the meal comes with, or if I haven't had one for a long time.

To be honest, I don't particularly like the taste of the Happy Meals but here I am, two days in a row eating it for a Hello Kitty toy that is pretty much a piece of junk anyway.

I can't possibly be the only one who does this, right? RIGHT?!

I don't do this very much, but when Burger King had the Star Trek toys, I can't tell you how many kids' meals we bought . I did it with some friends who were collecting the mini Ty beanie babies too.

depends on the toy. I always feel a little embarrassed when ordering a kids meal, unless they're doing the teenie beanie babies, then i don't care. Although the kids meals do have fewer calories (for a grown person) than say a big mac and fries.

I understand the sentiment, but I haven't done this for a long, long time.

I love kids' meals! But they cost too much money so I end opting for the value menu instead. However, if my parents are buying me fast food, I'll get the kids' meal sometimes.

I loved the Beanie Babies McDonald's offered! I haven't seen them in such a long time.

I order a kid's meal whenever I'm feeling less than hungry for a full sized burger or meal.

Kids meals are great! When I have a hankering for a hamburger its always the plain hamburger that comes in a kids meal.

I prefer a value burger and value fries, because I don't drink sodas.

About once a month it is just the value burger; I'm always in a hurry!

I haven't had a kids meal in forever! Honestly I don't think it would fill me up these days, but I do have good memories of happy meals.

Haha yep! It's Hello Kitty and Bakugan. I was getting regular food there and saw the Hello Kitty and the side of my brain that thinks its still 10 years old flipped out and insisted I get that toy NOW lol.

But yes, your kids can rejoice

I have only done this a couple times. More often if I want the toy and its a girl one, I have my son get that happy meal and bribe him with a toy car or something from the store in exchange.

Some of the toys are awesome.

I wish more resturaunts would allow you to order off the kids menu though as I tend to eat smaller portions. :| Though I guess it's a money thing.

I prefer meals portioned for kids, both because of the price and the amount of food included. A traditional serving size for an adult in a restaurant is far more than I can handle in a single sitting. Say for instance, a bowl of pasta at Olive Garden would be three meals for me. But, they won't let me get away with ordering off the kids' menu at a place like that.

We don't eat "carbs", so the whole Happy Meal is a waste for us. But, since we have a 4 year old staying with us for a few weeks, this came up last night. Once he was done with the fries, apples, and all the burger he wanted, we tossed the fries, kept the apple slices (all 2 of them) and my other half ate the meat out of the burger before tossing the bun (the kid ate 1/2 of it).

That being said, sometimes the toys are just really cool...most McD's also sell the toys separately, but they are about the same price as the whole meal.

I don't eat fast food kids meals, because I try to avoid fast food in general.

At certain restaurants, however, I will order off the kids menu (assuming they let me... I've actually found that some places actually ENFORCE the children only thing... so lame lol). Although I've grown more adventurous in my eating since becoming a kid, there are still some places where the only thing that really appeals to me on the menu is the basic chicken fingers or something like that. If I want spaghetti but just some sauce and cheese and nothing fancy, or at places where the kids meal has some normal menu items but in a smaller serving size. I HATE having to get a huge order of something I don't necessarily want to have left overs of or that doesn't keep well.

That's part of why I like Cheesecake factory a lot. They usually let people do half orders of a lot of their food, like the ridiculously sized pasta dishes.

Occasionally I'll order a kids meal, but I don't eat fries and the drinks are too small. If you're embarrassed, just use the drive thru

Omg so much pretty much all of this. I've gotten into fights with waiters about ordering off the kids menu. I'm like, ok, so I'm over 12, does that make my money no good when it comes to ordering food off that menu? You don't have a grilled cheese sandwich anywhere else and that's what I'm fucking in the mood for! lol

I order kids meals sometimes if i'm in the mood for a burger and fries but know I shouldn't be eating it. The portion is perfect and I don't feel an overwhelming amount of guilt after I eat it.

they have more reasonable sizes than "adult" meals, imo
