Do you ever FAST for spiritual reasons?

Contributor: Bignuf Bignuf
The Jewish holidays involving a fast are this week. The Muslim holidays involving fasting just past. There are several other faiths who require fasting in some way or another as a way to "cleanse the soul".

Do you ever fast for spiritual reasons? Did you feel better "in your head and heart" afterwards?

Do you ever fast for ... more
Yep - have fasted for spiritual reasons and I think it can be a great thing to do. They key is to not just fast by giving up something (food or whatever) but to use that time to focus on why you're fasting (ie - as a conservative Christian I'd be reading my Bible/praying, etc.).

Sort of... I voluntarily abstain from various things that bring me pleasure during Lent. However, given my history of anorexia, I am strongly recommended by my doctor not to ever go into a full fast again. I had a friend in Bible camp who was also anorexic, but she was of a more religious variety - she found her starvation spiritually fulfilling and cleansing.

No, I'm an atheist, so I see no point of a spiritual fasting.

I fasted for dieting reasons, but not spiritual ones.
