Do you follow online links directly, or do you open them in new tabs/browser windows?

My question is about general internet behavior, not just how you browse here on EF:

How do you normally follow online links?

I right-click on links to open them in a new tab or browser window.

I copy links/shortcuts, and open a new tab or browser to paste them in.

I have to open them in new tabs because I forget about new windows and overload the computer.

Depends if I want to come back to the previous page or not. Most of the time I just right click and open in a new tab.

I've been known to open enough tabs to crash my computer.

If I know/trust the source and it doesn't seem to be spam, I'll open directly. If not, I copy/paste them. I want to know where they're sending me before I hit "send"

I usually always open in a new tab in the same browser I am in. Usually Chrome!

It's all about tabs. I find them least intrusive for my web browsing.

I almost always open things in tabs so I can continue with what I am doing and pop back and forth between the two pages simultaneously.

If it's external I usually open a new tab. If it's internal I usually just follow in the same tab.

I'm the queen of tabs, I always have several tabs open at once and always follow links into tabs.

Thank god for tabs. I always have about 10 tabs opened on my browser at once. Right now I only have 4, though.

That's one thing I like about Chrome, if I hover over a link a little pop up at the bottom of the page appears with the web address.

That's an option in every web browser.

I usually open things in new tabs because I'm browsing a listing (auctions, forums, etc) or I'm on a site with particularly awful navigation (EF, eBay).

Interesting post. I forgot about the right clicking and getting it in a new tab. This is my best friend now.

But did you ever notice that it doesn't work here on EF?

If you need an example, I posted a thread about additional warnings on Blu-rays and DVDs today. If you hover over the link here in this comment, it will likely show the correct url. However, hover over the external link to the article in the post, and it refers back to the EF thread.

I always open a new tab for links. Otherwise I'll end up losing pages that I need.

For those of you who Right-click (new tab), try Ctrl-click for a quicker "open in new tab" (that conveniently opens in background, doesn't take focus). (Firefox)

Usually, open in a new tab. If I don't care about the website I'm going back to, I'll follow through.
