Do you follow politics?

Contributor: DreamWolf DreamWolf
When it comes to politics I care only about what the alternative media has to say, as mainstream media is total fuckin brainwashing in my opinion, and I occasionally have a look into it to see what's up with the "stupidizing of the sheep"...

But all in all, I somewhat follow the current political events related to the coming elections, only because I sympathize with one guy in there who in my opinion is the only one who doesn't lie and isn't fake (HOPEFULLY at least!!! Am not gonna tell you who anyway, I don't wanna start political arguments here, at least not the usual kind of barking at each other instead of staying un-distracted by the big show of the two main parties setup), otherwise it would only be a topic of bigbig laughing all the time for me to watch the whole circus of the election seasons... ^^

Do you follow what's up with the elections in this year?

Not for entertainment purposes, only enough to where I can vote accurately and based on my beliefs and who I think is best for our needs. I honestly kind of hate the whole mess that comes with it, but I try to stay informed and I do have strong opinions on some things. When it comes to really important things that can have such a negative impact on our society and people, my activist side kicks in hard! Mostly with things like women's healthcare and the whole senior citizens, ss bussiness. I am an activist in women's rights, but I don't do anything extreme. Lol

politics and elections are what I'm studying in school and what i'd like to do with my life. I follow them religiously. Also, I'm skeptical at the idea of the media being "brainwashing" it's more like brain leading, or priming. the media, at least non-state run monopolistic media, can't make anyone believe something that goes against their preexisting information. I don't know what you mean by "alternative" perhaps BBC, NPR, perhaps al-zaeera or the foreign press, but if you mean things like blogs, or alternative media magazines, I would disagree immensely at the idea that they're better.

I'm vaguely aware of US politics. I'm following the current debates in the House of Lords over benefits cuts though.

correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the HoL only postpone bills for 6 months, or allow a bill through? Is the HoL the only place the bill/policie/etc can be altered or stopped?

What do you mean by alternative media? I don't like to watch TV news shows, but I do follow politics by reading newspapers.

The Commons can over-ride the decisions of the Lords, but the fact that so many Peers spoke out against them is going to affect their public image and therefore their electability. It may cause the coalition government to fall apart, if the Liberal Democrats decide to go with the advice of the Peers.

I don't really pay much attention. I lived in Washington DC for one year and I felt like I got enough exposure to politics in that one year to last me a lifetime. I try to ignore politics whenever possible.

i'll never understand why clegg thought he could create a lasting coalition with Cameron. the only thing that made sense was he figured the will of the people at that time was with the conservatives

The only reason I now follow politics is becasue I live in Wisconsin, and politics have taken over our state with Scott Walker. I have not been following US politics as much though.

I LOVE politics! Follow it all the time. If you look at history, even as far back as the Revolutionary War, the media (newspaper & pamphlets in those days) were even worse in their coverage. They spewed out so many lies and scandals, there was only one way to solve them; it was by a Duel!! Even the New Your Times today, is fading fast; low subscriber rate!

This country really needs a seasoned leader; not a 'community organizer' in training! I don't want this country to look like socialist Europe. It seems to me that university academia is a breading ground of liberal thinking which has lead to the wide breach in our political landscape. This country needs help; we need more a paycheck society rather than a welfare check society. That's my view, and why I get so involved in politics.

I don't think that mainstream media is the "stupidizing of sheep." I read the mainstream news, and I'd like to think of myself as not being a sheep or being "stupidized." I don't follow alternative sources (read: Alex Jones) because some of the stuff produced is incredibly far fetched or straight up inaccurate. However, if your sources include legitimate news organizations, such as the BBC or other like media, then you would be getting reliable news.

I think it's important to be aware of the world around us, and politics is of course, part of that world. I try to read of variety of sources to get opinions from all sides of the spectra so I can create my opinion.

thank you! too much "alternative news" is "I have one source, who has an axe to grind about someone I do not like. News!!!! why isn't anyone else reporting on Tony Blair's plan to use the dragonballs to prevent ron paul's 100 year presidency?"

I used to follow politics. Then I realized it was all a scam. Unless you're rich and influential (or come from a family that is), your interests will not be followed.

We really don't have a democracy anymore, we have American Idol. We don't have representatives, we have lobbyists and special interests. We don't have two parties, we have the independently wealthy and the old money.

another argument is that those who work the hardest, or have the most resources have more influence. most people don't vote, of those who do, few research the issue, of those, a scant few actually get involved in politics or local issues. if people want their views heard, they need to get involved. while democracy does have issues, how can the govt respond to a public that doesn't know what it wants, why it wants anything, how to ask for it, or is wiling to ask for it?

This will be the first presidential election I have ever been able to take part in. And regardless of political/whatever views, I think it's a circus.
