I have never gone for a professional manicure, despite getting gift certificates for them frequently. I simply have personally heard of too many people getting hepatitis and other diseases from either the dips, tools (even when they are supposedly "only used on you")...etc.

I don't know what the health regulation is for this industry, but it simply scares me.

So...do YOU get manicures or pedicures? Does possible disease exposure worry you? Have you ever gotten a disease you think came from getting this done?

I don't go for manicures or pedicures because 30 dollars to make my nails pretty for a week doesn't sound worth it.

Plus my feet are kinda nasty looking.

I get pedicures pretty regularly and I've never had any problems.

I used to get them regularly until I had more expenses coming in, but I've never encountered a problem. You will want to go to at least a reputable place, not some shabby looking backally nail salon. Instruments are autoclaved and cold sterilized between use, which not only prevents spread of any disease but also makes the equipment work better (cleaning it clears out debris from hinges, etc) so really, it benefits them to clean the equipment anyway! The disinfectants they clean the footbaths with also kills any chance of disease spread.

I've never had a problem, although I don't go regularly. When my sister is in town we try to make a thing about going to get mani/pedi's, so I only go a few times a year.

I get pedicure like once in a month and I actually do worry about the diseases. That's why I go to the same place every time, the one I really trust in terms of safety. It's pretty expensive, but being healthy is more important, you know

As long as you go to a nice place that has washers and dryers and doesn't wash their towels in the foot baths then your fine. We have a place like that, I could puke.

I would get them...but the spare cash we occasionally have goes to sex and video games, haha.

i've never known anyone who has had anything go wrong from a mani pedi. i did know one girl who got a staph infection in her eye when she tried on eye shadow at a victoria's secret store once. i only get a mani pedi every 2 or 3 yrs. i don't have the money for it.
