Do you have dogs and cats in the same home?

If you already have dogs, have you ever introduced a cat into that home? Did it work successfully or was it a formula for disaster?

We have 3 dogs and 2 cats. Had to introduce my 2 dogs to her dog/cats. Dogs got along good, but my dogs liked to chase cats as they are not familiar with them. It took several months, but they have calmed a bit, but not 100% yet.

Yes we have a dog a cat and a bird. They prefer to ignore each other most of the time.

My dog loves cats - he and a manx were raised together and they'd cuddle when sleeping. When we moved and the manx died of feline leukemia, we went and got another kitten for him to keep him company; as soon as they were in the backseat, he pinned her down and cleaned her ears, and he raised her. I got the dog and the ex-husband got the cat in the divorce.

His doggie-parents never got used to cats, despite his doggie-dad being raised with my own cat. They'd sit in the window and bark at the neighborhood cats, while my dog would want to go out and play with them.

We just have a cat. We have considered getting a dog but not sure how she would react to that.

For us it was the other way around (bringing a dog into a cat-run home.) Cats just ran away from him, he thought they were something to play with.

Trying to remember how it worked, but we introduced our cat to our dog some years ago. A lot of people think he's a vicious sort but he's really sweet (he doesn't like people getting close to me though, however unintentionally) so he just kind of sniffed her and went along his merry way.

He's something of a chicken, I won't lie.

Yep. 1 dog and 1 cat. The dog was scared at first but now he's used to the cat.

When I was little, my brother and I were both allowed to get pets (he a dog, I a cat)...we got them within days/weeks of each other. Because they were so little, the basically "grew up" together and were great pals. When my cat died, I got another cat and the dog thought this one would be his pal as well...well, no, she didn't think so. Anyway, she tolerated him, then we brought in another puppy who loved everybody/thing, but became a little scared of the cat because she didn't put up with his craziness. First dog died, so second one tried to cozy up to the cat more, which she tolerated but didn't care for. Cat died and I got another one. This one was used to dogs and thinks my dog now is his bestest buddy (though the dog is still a little skittish because of the previous cat)...but they're still buddies, playing and snuggling.
