I don't know if there is already a post about this...

I was replying to another forum and it was about alcohol..

And I started think think.....

I really don't like the taste of alcohol... Like it makes me almost want to puke..

I'm a new drinker I had my first drink in october 2011. From then and now I've drank about 6 times. I have yet to find something I can drink and don't mind the taste.

I've tried dark alcohol, vodka, and wine... What's the deal with that. I'm thinking maybe I'm just picking all the WRONG alcohol.... I want something that taste good without the after taste.

I tried a pink wine the last time, and it was GORSSS! I did sip a red one and it was good. I only went with the pink because of my mom.

I love red wine and Whiskey. I drank Whiskey last night. I love Black Velvet and Coke. However, I usually drink red wine. I like ones that are fruity. Try Arbor Mist Black berry, Arbor Mist Sangria, Arbor Mist Strawberry, or Wild Vines Passion Blend. These are my favorites. The Arbor mist wines are really flavorful. I love them.

I often have a glass (well a half glass) of champagne on New Year's Eve, but that's more tradition, and I don't mind the taste of cheap, sweet champagne. I could never drink enough of it to get drunk.

I'm _____ years old and have never been drunk. Alcohol just doesn't appeal to me. My grandfather was an alcoholic and my mother's horror stories actually worked to keep me away from it, but mostly the part where people throw up when they drink. That was all it took to keep me away from it. If something is so toxic it makes you puke, I don't want it in my body. Same rationale for why I never took mushrooms, despite going on Tour with the Grateful Dead when we were younger. A few hits of blotter acid? Maybe. But, I saw My Man sick as a dog from shrooms once and didn't ever want to be that sick.

Nessa, maybe it's a good thing that you don't like alcohol. You and I both come from families with addiction in its past.

I wonder if the whole "gag reflex" when tasting alcohol might be a protective mechanism. Your body saying, DON'T!!!!

I gave up trying to find an alcohol "I couldn't taste" or that tasted good years ago. Aside from my one glass of sweet champagne a year, I'm fine with not drinking.

That is why it took me so long to drink for the first time. haha I was worried of liking it a little TOO much. I don't, I could live without drinking.

I've had one friend who tried mushrooms, and she said it was the worst trip she ever had. Drugs, ehhh NO!
I've never want to try any of it.

Ha, I can never finish them. I always end up giving them to my boyfriends brother. They will drink ANYTHING. Well, I can finish a glass, but never a bottle. Never tried, couldn't deal with the taste long enough.

I like the taste of several different kinds of alcohol. I prefer mixed drinks.
I choose not to drink because of my hubby. When we were dating he said he didn't care if I drank as long as I didn't do it around him or come around him drunk. I drank a lot in college, BEFORE HIM. I realized really fast that I much prefer my husband than anything/ or anyone else. Some people say I wouldn't put up with that ultimatum. I say it didn't feel like an ultimatum to me. I had a choice to make and I am glad that I did. He has made me happier than I could have ever thought of. Do I still drink, occasionally at a dinner with friends but NEVER around my love.

Whiskey will put hair on your chest! LOL

There are stronger wines too. Just check out the alcohol percentage. I have purchased some that are 10% and some that are 6%. Also you may like drinks like Mudslides, sex on the beach, Cosmo, Appletini, and so on. Fruity drinks are less likely to taste like alcohol.

Oh my gosh Miss Nessa! You are not alone! I started trying alcohol in high school... so from '06 to like '10 I could never find a drink that I really liked. I just don't like the alcohol taste. I'm also very interested in what P'Gell said earlier, because my dad was/still is an alcoholic. I don't bother even trying anymore, can't tell you how many times I've had to say, "Oh, I don't drink." and deal with the explanation, LOL.

A lot of alcohol is an acquired taste... I got to like wine by starting on really sweet stuff like sangria and white zinfandel. I like a bunch of liquors in cocktails with sweet fillers like soda or juice. I don't like beer, but I do like hard cider which has a little more of a bitter regular cider taste. Then there's always malt beverages like Smirnoff Ice, Mike's Hard Lemonade and other sweet bottled drinks.

I like a lot of wines, rum, vodka (it's tasteless, virtually), tequila, some brandies, and very few beers, and many liqueurs.

It takes a long time and a lot of wine to develop a nose/mouth for wine. I suggest that if you live in a wine-producing area, go to a few good wineries and have a tasting. Do this a few times. If all you drink is horrible "wine"/stuff teenagers drink, like Arbor Mist and that crap, you won't develop any nose/mouth at all. Sure, it tastes alright, but, it's not developing anything and there's no experience from it. You acquire the taste of wine. Going to tastings at wineries gives you the opportunity to try a bunch of different types of wines in relatively small quantities (about 1 or 2 oz). Or take a wine tasting class. They'll teach you how to appreciate wine. You can also do this for beer if you like. That said, beer is much more bitter than wine. I didn't like beer until after I started drinking wine.

As for other hard alcohols, mixing them is the best way to go. I don't like whiskey of any variety (it tastes like corn or wheat mash or something nasty), though. You could try going to your local liquor store and getting those tiny 1 oz bottles and making your own mixed beverages to try. If you do that, Drinks Mixer is a great place to find recipes.

And, honestly, some people just don't like alcohol all that much. It's not a big deal to not drink.
