Do you name your cars?

Contributor: Bignuf Bignuf
Our daughter just got her third new car ever. She immediately was emailing all her friends pictures of it, so they could come up with a "perfect name".

We just don't get it. Maybe it is a young girl thing???

It's mostly a geek thing to name mechanical/electronic objects you depend on.

My Subaru Legacy (the car I own, not the car I'm driving right now) had its name changed to "Redstone", named after the exploding Redstone rocket program at NASA. That car has done everything but explode. It was originally "Rally" from the anime Gunsmith Cats. (The car I'm driving - my mother's Nissan 240SX - is known as "The POS" ... because it is. But it didn't catch fire during a cross-country move like Redstone did.)

My car is named "Eden", since I was able to get it from money I've earned working here.

My car is "the Vic" because it is a Crown Victoria. My husband's truck is "Shaky" because it shakes when it's sitting still. Our 74 Super Beetle is named Hector, because that is what my husband named him when we were younger. I've noticed that cars either have a good name right off the bat, or not at all really. Although we did recently spend some time trying to name his Edsel so that it had a name that could be easily referenced by other lowriders.

I'm a dork but somehow came to name my first car Bulbasaur after the pokemon. I don't remember how it happened, but I think it was a joke that stuck.

My car (and just about any electronic/mechanical object that cost me over $1000 and/or I'm particularly fond of) has a name. My grandparents named their cars when I was younger, too. Heck, most of my friends, male or female, name their cars and electronics. It's a deference thing, if you're going to rely on something, it makes sense for it to have a name.

I've never had a car, but my mom calls our 12 year old Plymouth Voyager "Louise" because it makes this sound when it brakes that sounds like it's squealing "LOUIIIIIIISSSSEEE!!!"

No, I've never named a car. I have friends who do, but I've never been inspired to call my car anything but...."my car." Maybe I'm boring.

Edsel - I'd say "The White Elephant" but it's probably not white.

Yep, Claire, Sally, and Heather.

Had a boat once, named her Crystal.

Also, I am a guy in his late 20s for a point of reference.
