Do you pray?

Contributor: .kaycat .kaycat
-If you pray, what do you pray for or who?

I pray at night is when I go into a deep prayer when I close my eyes time stops and a warmth comes over me. I pray for my friends, my family, my pets, all my loved ones close and far. I pray for strangers, I pray for people that hate me, and those who need it most. Doesn't matter who it is, if you asked me to I would drop everything and anything and pray on the spot for you, I will make room to pray and room in my heart forever for you. I pray for the basic things such as health, happiness, good grades I'm class, food in my stomach and a roof over my head. For good things and people to come my way and to remove evil, and obstacles that should come my way. Strength to get up every day because I have a lot of health problems. The List goes on if there's anything at all I pray, and I even talk to Jesus about the struggles in life and ask that he gives me hope, clarity and strength to keep going. Doesn't have to be Jesus, I was a Buddhist turned Christian before and I respect everyone's religions, beliefs and God in their life that gets them through their hardships or gives them hope.

I pray as well - in much the same way you describe, although I don't pray for pets.

Almost all of us have faith - some of us in a creator or savior - others in science. A lot of people don't believe that humanism or science require faith - but much of what they teach as fact, is actually theory and conjecture. You have to have 'faith' that its true.

Once you get to my age and find that 80% of what they taught us in science class is now proven erroneous, its becomes clearer that we don't know as much as we think we do. I have no doubt my children will find out the same when they reach my age - that the understanding of the world they have been given, will prove wrong and be revised again - and again....

I do not pray, as I have nothing/no one to pray to.

I do occasionally have reflection times where I think of the things I have been through in my life and how I got through them. I let my emotions and feelings about these things wash over me and I relax through it, grateful to have the experiences that I have had. Sometimes I accompany these times with music that speaks to me and my feelings at the time. I enjoy talking about things with my partner, exploring our deepest emotions and trying to figure out the world together. I often thank the people in my life for what they have done for me, and try to think of what I am grateful for and how the things in my life that I am unhappy with can be a learning experience and help me grow.

Aww I love that "trying to figure out the world together" me and my boyfriend do that, we can stay up for hours quietly having a talk before bed and we lose track of time, but feel so great after.
I also like how you are proof that you don't need to be religious to have faith, and in hard times you still have it. Delightful, I enjoy your comments!

Science is no faith. Faith is a belief in something that does not require proof. Science on the other hand relies on proof. Yes, scientific theories get disputed and proved wrong all the time. It does not change the fact that there is no science without proof and the is no faith with proof. You are mistaking two opposite concepts for the same thing.

I pray daily. For God to heal those who need healing (spiritually, emotionally or physically) in my life. I pray for wisdom and support through difficult situations. I thank God for all of the blessings he has given me. I do my best to pray for those who have done me wrong, but I am still working on that one.

As you admit today's truth is tomorrows disproved theory. So what happened to the so called proof?

Most scientific theories from the origin of the universe to origin of life are not provable. They will always be theories. That makes them more like religion than science - if the definition of science is that it must be 'provable'.

It's nice that you have faith in science.

I don't pray. I'm not trying to be offensive or put down anyone at all, I just see it this way: I don't waste time asking someone else to fix my problems or thanking them for something I don't believe they had any part in, I spend my time fixing my problems myself! As a lightly-spiritual agnostic, I really believe that the only person/thing who can actually effect your life is yourself. The "God" I see most people pray to is really just themselves from a detached standpoint

When a weather broadcast tells you that there is a chance of rain do you automatically assume that it will definitely rain? Probably not, but you might grab an umbrella just in case. Because you understand the way in which that chance of rain was predicted. But your world won't collapse if the rain does not happen. You've been warned about high probability, not told that it will definitely happen.

When some idiot writes in a book that the world will end tomorrow and your mom, dad, neighbors and second cousin removed believe that idiot, do you start believing as well? Even though nothing, other than that dude's words and peer pressure suggest it might actually be true?

I don't have a "faith" in science, for the reasons I have already pointed out in my previous post. Scientific theories are based on evidence: observations and experiments, they don't appear out of nowhere. Each person chooses whether this evidence is enough to suggest that this is truth or not. Religions, on the other hand, invent evidence for things they cannot explain with logic. HUGE difference.

Thereby I have presented my viewpoint and refuse to discuss this issue further.

Yup. I pray to my gods (Cernunnos, Freyr and Freya) and meditate on a regular basis.
