When we're busy we'll set alerts for topics and discussions we are following. If our schedule isn't so full we tend to just browse until we find the post.

I usually go back several pages in my favorite forum sections so I don't bother setting alerts for discussions.
I think the only one I ever did that for was when I was asking for critique on the part of my novel I put on dA. xD

I tend too. That way if I ask a question I can keep track of the answers. Or if the post is interesting I want to see what others think about it.

some of them. if it's something i am particularly interested in. i have recently discovered that u can put an closing date on polls when u create them. and u can set an alert on any poll to get a notification when it closes. it's interesting to see the final results
