Do you sleep with the TV on?

Contributor: Jul!a Jul!a
Fairly straightforward question. Do you sleep with the TV on? Can you even sleep with the TV on? Do you wanna smack people who do with cherry scented dongs?

I fall asleep with the tv on just to drown out the heater noise, the neighbors, etc. because if it's dead quiet, every little thing will keep me up. I do set the sleep timer though and turn the brightness way down because if I sleep all night with it on, I wake up with a nasty headache from the light.

I can't sleep with the TV on, only because the brightness of the screen will keep me awake.

My husband does play audio books when we go to sleep though, on low. I think the white noise in the background really helps me drift off.

I have a hard time just laying down and going to sleep, I usually have to fall asleep doing something else. Sometimes I can do it while reading, but normally the act of setting the book down somewhere else and turning the light off will usually wake me back up enough that I can't just plop down and go back to sleep. So I watch TV and drift off whenever. I can sleep without the TV on, I just like having the background noise and something to drift off to.

My husband on the other hand, was never really fond of sleeping with the TV on and could really only do it when he was really tired or was sitting for a long time. When we moved in together we had to compromise a bit. I used to just leave the TV on all night, but he started sleeping poorly because of it. So I keep the volume down low (since my hearing is better than his) and set a sleep timer.

The sound of the heater doesn't bother me at all. However if the tv is on and in the same room I am sleeping it will keep me up. If it is on I feel like I have to watch it.

I don't like the t.v. but I do need *some* noise though. I have a sound machine that just sounds like rushing air. I also keep my ceiling fan running year round.

Ohhh... and I like it dark and cold when I sleep, lots of pillows and blankets.

I can't sleep with the TV being on, neither can my Mom. My father, on contrary, can't speep without any background noise, which always drives my mother crazy... I'm so sorry for her

I usually like it dark and quiet but when I'm sick or bothered by something I can't sleep in bed - usually I'll sleep in the recliner watching tv.

I'll sometimes sleep with the TV on. My wife does go to sleep with the TV on, and if I'm still wide awake when I go to bed I'll leave it on. However, most nights I'll turn it off before I go to sleep.

On the other hand, unless I'm sleeping in my tent, I have a fan going all night for the white noise.

No noise and no lights when sleeping. If I need to unwind a good book or crossword works just fine.

I have to be SUPER tired to actually fall asleep with the tv on. If I do I will wake a couple hours later with it still going and shut it off.

I like dark and silent to sleep

I and my wife use to watch TV as we lay on the bed. The last one sleep turn it off.

I set the timer to turn the tv off after the last episode of How I Met Your Mother or Frasier, depending on how Lifetime has it set up that week.

Does anyone use the wake up timer on their television to get them up?

I have occasionally fallen asleep with a movie on my computer but it goes to the dvd menu and gets annoying so I have to get up to turn it off.

I must order a cherry scented dong to smack people with....I keep forgetting!
We decided early in our married life (like from the first day) that we would not have a tv in the bedroom. The bed is for sleeping and sex play. We rarely even read in bed.

I like to have a pitch black room with no noise. I don't even like to be able to look at the alarm clock and see it glowing.

That's pretty much how I am too. My husband prefers it off, but can conk out pretty much anywhere. Got him in trouble with an ex or two, but if you learn how to work with it, it's not a problem at all, lol

I always have a dvd playing while I fall asleep. I set it up on my computer with a sleep timer so I don't waste electricity.

Hard to answer because like many things--our situation is weird. We have a TV, but it hasn't shown current programming in almost a decade. We occasionally watch stuff on our computers and rarely on DVD. When we watch old stuff on the laptop in bed, one of us might start falling asleep and then the laptop gets turned off. We watch TV a few times a year at hotels. I don't know if we've both fallen asleep with those TVs on, but if I am really sleepy I can fall asleep when it's on. I don't sleep so well with noise or light.

I turn it on for background noise to fall asleep, but I set the sleep timer for about 90 minutes so it turns itself off after doze off.

We tend to watch a lot of Comedy Central before bed. Some nights we turn it off, but a lot of times we just leave it on.

I don't have TV because I can't afford it. but if I did I still wouldn't leave it on because that would be one hell of an electric bill. Hehe. But seriously I live near a busy main road, so I just listen to the cars and trucks while listening to my fan hum.

I set the timer for 60 minutes when I'm ready for bed. I'm good if it shuts off after I'm asleep, but I like listening to it when I'm trying to nod off.

Hubby works nights, so I normally fall asleep on the couch while watching TV. The TV is always on here, it barely gets turned off because I hate silence.

For the most part I sleep with the TV on because I need noise to fall asleep for the most part. When it is quiet I think a lot more.

I voted "Other." While I can sleep with the TV on, I never do that anymore. I used to take naps on the couch while the TV was on all the time, usually when I came home from school. I avoid taking naps now.
