Do you think soup is a bad meal?

Contributor: Zandrock Zandrock
I have a couple of friends who say is not filling and is never good for a meal by itself. They think it is only good with something else. What are you thoughts?

It depends on what kind of soup. A light brothy soup I won't do for dinner, but they make good lunches. But something like my chicken tortilla soup - thick base, meaty, filled with veggies - I make for dinner all the time and no one ever complains about it not filling them up.

I like to have tomato soup with cheese on toast, the solid food component makes it more filling.

Depends on how much fiber and protein the soup has.

Depends on what kinda soup. I can get by fine on chicken noodle, but if I'm making tomato, I'll also make a grilled cheese to go with it.

I love soup as a meal!
The most filling soup to me is the turkey noodle soup we make with left overs after Thanksgiving.

it all depends on what type of soup it is. Alot of soups can be very filling.

I'm with the group here. It depends what kind of soup it is. Thick creamy soups, or soups with a lot of stuff in them (like minestrone), make a great meal by themselves or maybe with a piece of bread. If it's a lighter soup, maybe a sandwich or something to go with it.

I agree with those who said it depends on what kind. We'll eat home-made soups full of veggie chunks and such as a meal, but not those cheapie watered down Campbell's things.

I love soup, so I think it's a great meal. Unfortunately, I can't seem to make a small batch of soup and nobody else will eat it, so I'm left eating it for days and I get burnt out on it.

canned soup is a terrible meal, homecooked soup is a great one

Soup (and salad, for that matter) is not food. It just means that food is on the way.

I think it is a very nutricious and filling meal--if prepared correctly.

It really depends on the soup. I personally like soups that are full of veggies and meat sometimes, so they're very filling. I also like to serve it with biscuits or rolls.

It's only a meal if it's in a bread bowl and not too thin.
