Does it rub you the wrong way...

Does the attitude that some feminists seem to have that you must conduct yourself a certain way and if you don't agree with them you're brainwashed by the patriarchy or "Just being influenced by the society in which you live" ever rub you the wrong way? It's an argument you can't refute, and quite unfair because each person has different reasons for the same behaviors.

It doesn't really apply to me, being part of the patriarchy, but I do feel that feminists have, overall, outlived their usefulness. In many ways we do now have a balanced society, and it's up to the individual to overcome problems. Indeed, in other ways (custody of kids, for example) women have more rights. Too, I can think of a few feminists who do more damage to 'the cause' than other, more friendly feminists.

I'm more interested in "human rights" than "women's rights" myself, and I do believe we have a ways to go yet, but I think we need equality for all to have equality for anyone. Until all forms of gender expression are readily accepted, or at least not violently scorned, and there are no more anti-choice bills introduced, I think we need a movement, if not necessarily the feminist movement, but I still can't help but feel people who tell you you're brainwashed as opposed to a simple "I don't agree, here's why" are hurting any kind of dialogue that could make it happen.

I understand what you mean. I've encountered some feminists who seem to think any woman who wants to wear makeup has been brainwashed by the patriarchy's unrealistic beauty standards. Could it just be that I like to wear makeup? It's fun!
I have mixed feelings about feminism and pornography. I like to watch porn, and generally, the women who do porn are doing it willingly. However, I tend to think it is a sad commentary on society that sex work is one of the few fields where women consistently make more money than men.

I think that can be said about any group that has extreme beliefs in a particular topic. I do not like to be told what I am or am not supposed to do. I run into this problem on the other end of the spectrum. As a wife and mother in a southern suburb, the fact that I write and talk about sexual health for women makes me a huge target to the "proper way to act" club around here. I give it right back as good as they give it, but sometimes I just want to tell people to shut the FXXk up and mind their own business. Live and let live is the best way to be I think. Do what's good for you and leave everyone else alone to do what is good for them. The more you shove any belief down people's throats the more they will resist.

Not a fan of any group that is abusive and militant with their standards and beliefs. Even causes I would ordinarily support. I get supremely annoyed with the extreme feminist platform. But I also get irritated with the highly popular male-bashing trend in the media, so I may just be a little crotchety. Hell, I think I spend more time feeling bad for the good guys that have to listen to themselves be put down and emasculated for the sake of really stupid comedy than I do feeling any connection whatsoever to the portrayal of the woman delivering the punchline.

Feminists have always annoyed me. It just hits a point where it's no longer about "equality" it's about being given the advantage.

i don't like how feminists can get all upset b/c a woman is a housewife. i feel that if a woman CHOOSES to be a housewife, then there's nothing wrong w/ that. hell, if i married a very rich man (that i loved & loved me of course), i would be a house wife for sure, lol.
