Dog lovers - best chew toy for a dog?

Contributor: SecretToyLover2 SecretToyLover2
So I posted about how to help my dog stop chewing my sex toys. Friend sent me an article saying that dogs mainly chew things with your scent on them. It said to buy heavy strength dog chew toys and leave them in a dirty clothes hamper for a few days before giving it to them, and making sure the dog has plenty of chew toys. My dog only has two chew toys, and he's terribly bored with him. Never thought to buy him more since he is 4 years old now, but I know it's time to get more.

Can anyone recommend a good chew toy from Petco, Dog.com, or PetSmart? Something for an overactive chewer with some sharp teeth? Something to keep him busy.

Bully sticks (a bull's penis). Sounds gross, but it's completely digestible, tasty and long-lasting.

Yes, ma'am. They are bull's penises. I highly recommend them! Pig's ears, snouts, hearts, lungs, and tendons are also safe/healthy chew toys (as gross as all that sounds).

I used to buy bully sticks for my old dog and he loved them. I'm sure my current dog would love them too. Ears... well he chews through those within a day, so I avoid them. I would love to find a heart or a lung. I'll bet that would last him days!

The large Nylabones are good for aggressive chewers. We've got a 90 pound 10-month-old who can shred most toys within minutes, but those take her a few months to destroy.

If you want something that's going to last literally for years though, Google for West Paw Design. Their Zogoflex line is awesome. We've got the Hurley (in 2 sizes), Huck (also 2) and Zisc and they are really tough although they feel pretty rubbery/pliable. That might be a plus since your pup is impressed with sex toy materials! One of our Hurleys has already lasted through 2 Boxers and now the puppy uses it, but IF a dog manages to destroy anything from the Zogoflex line, the manufacturer will replace it for free.
