Dumb Phone (Just Calls and Texts), Verses Smart Phones (Basically computers on your hip). How many of us own which?

Contributor: Bignuf Bignuf
I start to wonder if soon, all our devices...music players, phones, cameras, computers, will simply be that ONE device we always carry...but then, I see someone with the MOST simple of PHONE ONLY phones.

SO...how does the EF family break on this one.

I have a simpler cell phone - I barely even text on it. Smart phones are neat in theory, but one major drawback I've noticed is that many of them seem to be extremely fragile. On several occasions, I've dropped my clamshell-style phone hard enough for the battery to fly out, and it's still alive after almost four years. I've seen a LOT of smart phones, on the other hand, with cracked screens. (Though of course, it's always best to be careful with one's electronics.)

Besides, if I'm going to be cruising the internet, I'd want a bigger screen to work with. My brother has a tablet that's really neat - I'd go for that long before I'd go for a smart phone.

I have a Iphone, my son has the phone I upgraded from but he wants a smart phone as well. I am just waiting because I am still not wanting to get him one just yet.

I didn't want to pay for smartphone data when I have my computer. They're nice, but outside of a family plan, they really screw you on rates.

So I have a talk-and-unlimited-tex t+pictures plan. I hardly ever use my minutes, just text. I just wanted a full keyboard and I have awesome battery life !

I could actually buy a data package for this phone, but it's not worth it to me, so meh.

I bought my first smartphone in August. I love it.

I'm a little counter culture on smartphones. I'm stingy about the expense, and I really, really, really don't need or want to be connected to the world 24/7. My facebook can wait.

Same cell phone since high school. Simple as they come. But if you know right programs (like TequilaCat) you can read millions of words of fan fiction and fantasy books on it. I know I did.

My hubby got me a smart phone for V-day, which needed to be turned on the 7th. It is my very first one. I am all new to it, but I am loving being connected to EF 24/7. I get all me email alerts and can't help but play around and see what is going on. I love it.

We also have an emergency spare phone that doesn't even send pictures. And my hubby just has a talk/text with pics phone for daily use.

I nor my family have money for a Smartphone, so I have a "dumb" phone. Not something I lose sleep over.

I got a low-end smart phone because I wanted a QWERTY keyboard for texting. I love it! Occasionally I use the more computer-y functions on it, but only when I'm on the train or something. Usually I'm at home where I can grab my laptop instead.

Just switched the family to smart phones this past summer. It actually only cost me $10 more a month than we had with regular phones with voice and texting with another service.

I have a Droid Pro w/ unlimited data, voice, and text. But it's provided by my company because I use it to email from home or on the road, so if I were paying for it for myself, I'd most likely have a simpler phone and definitely have a cheaper plan.

I waited till I could grab Virgin Mobile's prepaid BlackBerry on sale for $79. I love having all the extra features, but I just don't think I'll ever be comfortable dropping several hundred dollars on a phone, especially with my history of losing them!

In case anyone is interested, Wal mart sells straight talk phones and I got my smart phone for $60. Monthly for unlimited everything is $45. It is a deal! They only work in the U.S. and I don't think you can call outside of the U.S., but other than that they are great.

I have a simple phone, and my partner owns a smart phone. Even my mom has a smart phone... I guess I'm a fairly simple person. I'm fine with the phone I have. It does what it's supposed to, and that's all I really care about.

I had a plain phone for years before I got a Virgin smartphone. I love being able to talk/txt/fb/tweet people without having to be in front of my computer.

I have just a generic call/text only phone. Sure, I can get internet on it, but I don't care to.

My man doesn't even own a cellphone.

I pretty much only use my phone to access the internet. I rarely talk on my phone. I don't pay for text, I use another phone number with google voice for texting. It's nice being able to access internet when I am out shopping checking on deals ect.

After having an iPhone I've tried to have other phones such as android, the phones themselves are nice but the android OS at this point I think it's on jellybeans or something like that and I just don't think it's works as well as the apple os. So I'm back with my iPhone 5 and I love it.

Ehh, I'll upgrade eventually. This one still works and I don't need a smart phone, so there's no point in getting a new one.
