Dust Bowl Survival

Thanks to PBS, I have found out just how bad the Dust Bowl really truly was.
If it happened today, do you think you would have survived. Or would you have left after the first sign of trouble.

I think I would have held out for a few years, but after someone I loved died, i would have left and never looked back.

I don't know if any of these fit me, exactly. It depends on how old I was when it happened. If I was my current age, probably the second option. If I was in my 50's, I'd probably hold strong through the whole thing, just because I wouldn't want to give up what I'd worked my whole life on. (Irrational, but probably describes what I would do anyway.)

Dust Bowls happen to this very day, all over the world. It is just that today we can better deal with the aftermath. There were no aquifers and water collection towers in the 1930's!

I'm not sure. I think it depends on whether or not there was somewhere else to go. I imagine that for a lot of people, there were no options.

I watched the PBS documentary with my dad. He told me the stories that his parents told him about being farmers in the dust bowl. They were teenagers when it started and it lasted into their 20's.

It definitely made me feel like a softy, that's for sure! I don't think I could handle something like that.

I'm too stubborn to leave. Something major to absolutely force me would have to happen.
