Ever get jealous of your partner's pet?

Contributor: Redboxbaby Redboxbaby
We have two dogs. The baby is a sweet girl(she's 8 and weighs 50 lbs), she loves to cuddle, hug, sleep under the covers, follows my husband EVERYWHERE and waits by his side. She follows him to the toilet, to the shower, to get the paper, etc. If my husband is there, she, too, is there. She is ALWAYS the first to greet him; she will trip me up to beat me there.

I tease him that I am going to start getting jealous of all the attention he gives her.

Have you ever been jealous your partner's pet?

The wife always gets made cuz my dog, Zoe, does not listen to her. I think its funny, her dog, Ginger, listens to me more than the wife. I am guessing it is my tone of voice or something along those lines.

Our cats sometimes get clingy, but they do it to both of us pretty equally. I don't think the pets feel like they're in competition with me for my boy, or with my boy for me. They seem to like it best when we're in the same room and they can be between us or right next to both of us.

My partner's cat doesn't like me in the bed and always manages to somehow get between us and slowly push me to the edge of the bed during the night.

Same here. My dog, is old. She is going deaf too. She does not listen to me, either that, or she can't hear me. She hears my husband just fine. I can holler at her to stop eating shit in the back yard and she doesn't so much as lift her head. He can holler at her once and she comes running in.

He doesn't have a pet but if he did and he spent more time with it, I would be jealous. And then I would feel stupid for being jealous of an animal, but in fairness, we're all still animals somewhere under those big brains!

My husband likes to tease me that our cat Tigress gets priority over me because they've known eachother longer. Although, sometimes I wonder if he's really teasing...

I found this topic title quite amusing, being a pet player and continuous kitten. Though I doubt, if I did have a partner/owner/Dominant /etc in my life and they had a pet that I would get jealous as if the person truly loved/cared for me, I know that I would always be above an animal (ironic much? ) and more treasured for what I have to offer and the amount of loyalty and trust I give those I care for.

No, I love his dog. She's a sweet old cockapoo that he's had since he was a kid.

He's great with my dogs, too. One of my dogs wags his tail so much when he see my boyfriend that my dog's whole butt swings back and forth

I say other, because I frequently joke about how his female dog and I are in a battle of his affection. She did actually take it with some difficulty... But the dog has adjusted to me. I do walk in and see them spooning on the couch and I just laugh and say "Do I need to give you two a moment?"

But I would never get seriously jealous. I'm the woman he's chosen to live with. That's just a dog he adopted. I have thumbs. Go me!

Hahaha my boyfriend's dog gets jealous of me!! Me and her get along when he is not around. The minute he steps into the room , she stands in front of me and barks. If i sit next to him, she pushes her way through, if I dare kiss him , she starts jumping and barking. I call her his "wifey." So yea, she loves him. And he loves her lol. She doesn't respect me.

LOL. It's a pet not a partner. Why would you be jealous?!

Our dogs have always loved me, but My Man is always "Alpha." They can sense it and they'll come to me for comfort, but to him for "permission" "forgiveness" or anything else.

We had one female Malamute who actually thought I was the Alpha, and My Man was jealous of her. But, I got pregnant (again) when she was about 2 or 3, and had to spend a lot of time in bed, and all of a sudden, he's Alpha again. It didn't help when she tried to "dominate" our 5 lbs, newborn premie, (by gently placing her teeth on the baby's head. Uh uh. We don't DO that! I don't care how wolves "accept" new pups into the pack.) and I had to keep her separated from the baby for a while. By then she was afraid of the baby. I was always with the baby, so it was hard.

This dog died a terrible death of pancreatitis and infection when our baby was about 3, and they were getting along by then. Sad. But, she was the only dog who felt I was the Alpha. ("Alpha Bitch" as My Man always says.)

My boyfriend has a dog, it's totally cute. It gets finnicky and nervous around guests, but usually sits with me and licks me and cuddles with me.
It listens to him, cause of his authority and such but likes the way I smell or something, I suppose.

Sadly, yes. It's something that I feel, though, I am justified in feeling. We've just got a dog that follows us around everywhere. We beat him good and proper, but it doesn't help...

But with partners, sometimes people just get too comfortable in relationships, and so it's detrimental, I feel, to pay more attention to a pet than a human being. Especially when that human being has orifaces and appendages that come in handy.

Back when our cat was still alive, it was the other way around. He would follow me everywhere I went and would sleep in our bed and at times my husband would get really jealous. But he always new that my baby came first.
