Farm Animals vs. Pets

Have you ever had farm animals and if so, were they more pets or production animals (e.g. did you use your nubian goat for milk or as a lawn ornament)? I'm including horses, pigs, cattle, and sheep here.

My family used to own a dairy farm, and we always considered them 'useful' animals, rather than pets.

I raised ducks. I showed them in fairs. I also tried to sell their eggs, but that never worked out.

I grew up on a Farm and we had lots of cattle and even more hogs and they were never considered pets. Even the calf we had to raise cause the mother died was sold off. We had cats that were friendly on the farm but they were for keeping the mice down. Every animal had a purpose on the farm.

Back in school I use to raise hogs for county fairs they were more for production I learned how to care for them and sold them off for slaughter.
