Fellow Swimmers...how do you like your pool water?

Contributor: Bignuf Bignuf
The public pool we use locally just switched from chlorine to "soft water ionizer" last year. It is so, so nice. No chemical smell, taste and hair does not get a case of frizz burn. We also have friends who just built their own backyard pool and installed a "natural sea water" system, instead of chlorine. Apparently it also uses almost no chemicals.
So, have you swam in these types of alternative pools and do you like them?

I swam competitively for so many years that I stopped noticing chlorine a long time ago. It has no effect on me. Salt water pools, on the other hand, I cannot stand. The salt tastes terrible, makes my skin itch, and makes my hair feel slimy. As far as I know, I haven't even heard of ionized pools...

An ex-girlfriend of mine had a salt water pool, and I loved it. I could open my eyes under water without them becoming irritated, my skin felt great after getting out, I didn't smell like I just came out of the washing machine, and the water never tasted bad. It also has to be warm, 90 degrees or better works for me.

I've never been in a pool that wasn't just chlorinated. So I can't compare. I have been swimming in oceans which I love because it's freeing & dangerous. I didn't know that they had those other options.

Chlorine always irritates me and I hate the smell/fumes, which is why I don't swim much. I think I will look for one of these pools in my area.

Optimal I'd much rather be in a pool with salt water than chlorine but since that really isn't going to happen I just rather a clean pool, preferably out of doors rather than inside a building - detracts from the godawful chemical smell and TAN TAN TAN

I had the opportunity to swim in the natural sea water option that you mentioned; I found that it barely irritated my eyes vs. a traditional chlorine pool which does irritate my eyes.

I've only swam in chlorine pool. Doesn't bother me as long as it ain't green...or purple from pee, or whatever color that chemical turns it.
