What do you think of a website dedicated to helping gay men meet gay women for matrimonial purposes?

That's the niche being filled by Chinagayles.com Currently 150,000+ members strong, the site helps homosexuals find members of the opposite sex who are willing to live together and in some cases have children together.

If the idea seems crazy, keep in mind that homosexuality was classified as a mental illness by China's health ministry until 2001, and there is a great deal of cultural pressure for young adults to marry and have a child.

My question is: did the website get the idea from a movie released in the 1990's, The Wedding Banquet?

Do you think the marriage of a homosexual man and a homosexual woman is a good solution to conforming to societal and cultural norms? Or do you think it is a short term fix that will lead to long term problems? Might it make people more tolerant over time, or less?

People shouldn't need to hide who they are, it's wrong. But we live in an imperfect world, and if failure to conform will carry dire consequences, it's better to conform with someone else who knows the score, rather than marry someone deceitfully and doom them to an unhappy marriage.

I think it's a very sad state of affairs, but it just goes to show how ridiculous current marriage laws are, and that people aren't protecting anything by fighting to keep them unchanged.

This is a horrible idea, I think. All it serves to do is force people to fit into the little boxes of a closed-minded society. It's really sad that some people have felt that they have to come to this 'solution'. Why can't people just be open and accepting?
