Yes--that's us, too. Both our work schedules are so chaotic that "late" is kind of a quaint concept to us anymore. I was raised to be almost absurdly polite, so it took some unlearning before I could stop texting every time I was going to be later than X hour. She's trained me not to be so hung up on manners. Fortunately we're both highly self-sufficient...

I call if I'm going to be late- I see it as manners. Besides that, I know my family, friends, or significant other would worry if I'm late without informing them. Just seems like common sense to avoid it all if possible- it's just a quick simple phone call.

Well my partner and I are in an LDR, but I do tend to send him a little text or something if something like that happens.
Usually it's just me letting him know I'm going to take a nap or that my mother is going to have the cell with her for the day though so he doesn't think I'm upset with or ignoring him.

It just depends on how late I'm going to be.

Yep. The key is to make sure to have your expectations set ahead of time about what qualifies as late and a calling situation.

I don't have a partner right now, but I would call them. I tend to call my mother, especially if I'm coming home really late. I do it even when I don't need to really because I tend to worry, and I know sometimes she can, so I like to just make things easier on us and call.

We check in with each other for a couple different reasons.

One - we share a car, so we often have to be careful with our timing to make sure the other one gets where they need to. On the same note, if one of us is leaving work and the other one is at home, we'll often check in to see if anything needs to be picked up from the store. It saves a lot of back and forth.

Two - I'm a natural worrier. If hubby is more than half an hour late and hasn't called, I'll give him a buzz just to make sure he's not in a ditch somewhere.

He always calls me since I had a good friend killed in a car wreck and he knows that's my biggest fear. I call him since he worries about me in general. I'm a major clutz so for all he knows I and could have tripped in a parking lot somewhere and somehow injured myself in some way lol.
