Hallucinations: what's your view about them? :)

Contributor: DreamWolf DreamWolf
I always thought that no matter what kind it may be (meaning here both by drugs, and WITHOUT drugs and other similar things) that they are other layers of reality, whether they are pleasant, horrifying, or just simply strange...

But what's YOUR opinion about them?

Hallucinating with drugs or without is not cool.

I hallucinate a lot due to my mental illness. It's not fun at all. I don't think it's any type of reality, just my brain being sick.

My partner and I are both mentally ill, and while my illness does not come with hallucinations, hers does. It's terrifying for both of us, especially her.

I once had a drug hallucination (bad mix between a dental anaesthetic and a prescription antidepressant) which was fun. I think I might enjoy other drug hallucinations, given the opportunity, but only if I knew what to expect ahead of time.

Considering most of mine (I've got schizophrenia, and hallucinations are one of it's symptoms unfortunately) have been scary, and tend to make it hard to sleep?
...I hate them. -.-

I've only hallucinated due to high fever, drugs (I used to be a Dead Head... soooo) or the occasional Sleep Paralysis.

IMO, (and the medical establishments') most hallucinations are a sign of something going wrong in the brain. I don't think they are from an alternate reality.

And they are often very frightening to people who have them due to mental illness. Most people who suffer from hallucinations would do anything to be rid of them.

I'm sorry you guys and KyotoAngel are going through this. Not fun.

That is the thing about hallucinations, you NEVER know what to expect ahead of time.

When I used to drop acid, I was always fighting it. I'd get scared and try to stop it. You never knew what was going to happen and what you were going to be feeling, hearing, smelling, tasting etc. There's no consistency to hallucinations, that's one of the reasons they are so scary.
