have you ever almost hit an animal while driving?

I almost hit a deer last night driving home from work. It was standing in the middle of the mountain road, as I came around the bend. I came within inches of hitting it. It could have been bad. I was driving home after midnight over the mountain pass. So no cell service and no one else on the road. It could have been a long night.

Anyone else almost hit an animal while driving?

I accidentally hit a bunny once when I was in high school and driving early in the morning. I was so sad I cried. I haven't hit anything since

I've hit a bird. Kept expecting it to fly away as I slowed down, but it didn't for some reason.

I think that everyone will dislike me for this, but I almost did purposely. It was a cat, and it was annoying me because it was sitting in the road and staring at me. I didn't hit it. I couldn't, it was a poor little cat. But it did aggravate me a bit.

However, no, I've never hit an animal or human being, thankfully. I do not know what I would do with myself if I did, I would feel terrible for killing any living creature.

I've almost hit a few deer that ran across the road, and I've unfortunately hit a few raccoons or possums as well. It's been quite a few years at this point so I can't remember which one exactly. With one there was traffic behind me and I slowed down as much as I could but I didn't want to cause an accident so I just gripped the wheel and prayed that they'd get out of the way in time. The other I had no idea it was even there. Pretty much as soon as my car was about 10 feet away it darted in front of me and I had no opportunity to even try and slow down. I felt horrible both times

We hit a deer once (which was bad), and we've come close to hitting antelope a few times. Sometimes they decide to bound across the road just because they can (antelope are not the brightest of animals).

We live in a rural area. We have to deal w deer, raccoons, possums, rabbits, skunks, foxes, etc daily. We have had 3 deer collisions in the past 5 years.

I haven't hit anything yet, though I've had close calls with squirrels, birds, and raccoons. I've gotten out of the car to pick up 2 turtles so far that were in the middle of the road in my neighborhood, then I took them to the park near where I babysit since I was on my way there. I've also nearly hit animals that looked like deer that had already been hit; they were on the road through the local farm/nature area after midnight, and I only saw them when driving home from my sister's place.

The park near where I babysit also has geese. Multiple times this summer and last, they have gone and sat in the middle of the road and refused to move for cars. It's quite annoying, but so far people have just gotten out of their cars and shooed them away.

One of my parents has hit a dog that ran into the street out of nowhere. They made sure to tell the family, which was nice. Other than that, I think they've just hit a bird or two? Those will dive in front of cars in our neighborhood all the time.

Many times, deer, elk, mountain lion, cows, cats, dogs, rabbits and porcupines off the top of my head.

Some that stand out the most.
One time, much like you there were five or six deer standing in the road. As I approached at about 65 MPH all but one took off for the side of the road. The smallest one ran in the direction we were going, I have never hit the brakes so hard before. Thanks to anti-lock breaks, I only nudged her ass. She was fine but my mom and I were quite shaken.

Another time while riding my motorcycle on the highway, I had to dodge a pigeon that flew for my head. It missed me but grazed my friends head that was on the back. It was all I could do to keep the bike under control.

The best and possibly the worst one was with a cow. We were in the mountains of Colorado racing down a old logging road in a sand rail. Coming around a sharp turn we came face to face with a very large cow standing in the road. Now for those that don't know, a sand rail is basically a roll cage on wheels. No bumpers, no wind shield and you are totally exposed. If we would have hit that cow, we would have hit it at the shin's and had a cow in our laps.

Ah the joys of driving in the country/mountains.

I, personally, have only ever hit a squirrel (I cried and sobbed the rest of the way home--I was utterly devastated).

When I'm with someone driving at night, I'm on animal watch. I can't stand sleeping if I know the possibility of hitting any animal. I live in the northwest, and sometimes go through rather remote places, so, it happens far too often (though never to me).

I drive at nights in a very rural area. I have hit more deer than I remember, a few birds, squirrels, 2 dogs, 3 cats and a raccoon. They are all unavoidable and costly but that is the price I have to pay living where I do. I cry every time and feel awful!!!

I nearly hit a deer several times...had one jump over my car even. I nearly hit a coyote and an owl in the same night. I stopped on a dirt road to allow a famiy of possums to cross the road. Looked like a Mama and her five young 'uns but Daddy could have been in the bunch. Enthralled my girls since usually we see possum playing dead it was cool to see them up and mobile.

I've hit a bunny and a possum. I slowed or stopped for both of them, and then when I started to move again they run back under my back tires. D:

Thankfully I haven't, but there have been a handful of squirrels that have come dangerously close. They seem to run across the road at just the wrong moment.

We have lots of wildlife in the area and there have been many close calls. The one that bothers me the most though is a cat I managed to avoid. Poor thing got spooked and went racing across a busy two lane road. I managed to stop in time so that I didn't hit it, but it didn't make it past the SUV going in the opposite direction. For such a small thing it was an awful sound.

Luckily we've never hit any deers, they're usually standing a few feet away from the road grazing. The only animal I've ever killed was a Blackbird, it flew right in front of my car while I was driving on the on-ramp of a freeway. I always try my best to avoid running over squirrels, if the cars behind me are not following too close, I'll brake and let the rodents cross first.

Being that I live in the sticks on a very dark dirt road the wildlife are everywhere so it's always best to drive slow from dusk onwards!
I've come close to hitting rabbits, massive deers, possums, echidna and kangaroos.

I had a kangaroo jump into the side of my car as I drove past.

I've never hit anything and fingers crossed that I never will. There was a tiny cute bunny sitting in my parking spot at my boyfriend's house when I pulled up the other night, but I just drove up real slow and it skittered away against the wall to hide until I left. That's about as close as I've ever come, and it wasn't very close at all
