Have you ever made your own sugar scrub?

I think I want to try and make my own sugar scrub. If you make your own what do you put in yours? Do you think massage oil would work mixed with sugar?

It might work. I would use and discard though since sugar is a great medium for bacterial growth. I have made srub several times using massage oil and sea salt. That works well, but it probably is not as moisturizing!

I love making homemade personal care products. I made a scrub of coconut oil, ground coffee and salt a while ago. I also added turmeric and matcha... It was messy, but it really exfoliated and moisturized well. The coffee and matcha were used for antioxidant action and to employ the benefit of caffeine. Turmeric is good for the skin, but requires a lot of rinsing to remove properly.

Now that I think of it, I still have some in the fridge... I should discard it by this point, as it could be harbouring bacteria by now.

I did once, but I don't remember the exact recipe for it. I tried both brown sugar and white/refined sugar with some sort of oil. I think the brown sugar had more "scrub" to it, while the refined sugar was softer on the skin.

I made a simple one with sugar and olive oil, and of course it was a small batch just enough for one use because as Gracie said, you don't want bacteria. Unless you find a recipe that has ingredients to work as preservatives and then keep the scrub in the fridge (though the scrub will probably only be good for a week anyway).

I've made my own sugar scrub and I'm working on making a moisturizing oil mixture that would work with different types of sugar. Apricot oil , shea butter, cocoa butter, grapeseed oil , jojoba oil, etc with brown sugar, plain white sugar, etc.

Massage oil might work...but they typically might not be as good for the skin as they could be. Try it out, it might work for you. I have gone through a few mixtures and I'm getting close to my ideal.

It's tons cheaper than buying sugar scrubs.
