Have you ever tried laser hair removal?

Contributor: Hot'n'Bothered Hot'n'Bothered
I'm just curious, I've been debating on trying laser hair removal (hello uni-brow, goodbye waxing) And wondering if anyone has any experiences?...Didn't see too much in previous posts!

I worry because of my red hair, they say red/blonde coloring it's pretty much pointless to even attempt

I've had great results with it. I'm having it done on my legs, underarms, and bikini area. They told me I was pretty much the ideal candidate for it though. I have very pale skin, and dark coarse hair. I had quite a bit of reduction even after my very first treatment. It is very painful though!

I know I cannot do it, I'm pale with practically white hair. My mom did it and she says any hair that hadn't already turned gray is gone (still gone several years later). You shave right before the appointment (no dying the hair darker), and the machine goes by the contrast between hair and skin.

Electrolysis is the option I'm considering. It works for any hair/skin color combination. Only problem: they do it hair by hair, not area by area. It takes much longer. That being said, I don't know whether it costs more or less for electrolysis than it costs for laser.

I haven't tried it as of yet, but I really am interested in it. I'd love to never have to worry about shaving my armpits again.

My wife has 3 of her 6 treatments for a 'Brazilian' - each time they crank up the power. She came home today with a very pink mons. We can tell the difference - but it'll be several months before we can say for sure how well it worked.

I'd love to never have to worry about shaving armpits and everywhere else, but I've got no money haha.

I don't have red hair on my head, but apparently I have red hair down south. I shelled out for laser hair removal. It was absolutely agonizing and I still have pubic hair. It thinned out a bit, but it did not remove it entirely. Waste of money.

I've thought about it. Waxing works for me right now, though.

I haven't but I would love to. I also have dark hair and pale skin and heard it would work well for me.

I'm actually getting done right now. I'm going onto my third session for underarms and I love it. It hasn't gone away completely, hair there is coarse & thick, but I have noticed an improvement. It grows a lot slower and it's not as noticeable.
Sometimes it takes more sessions than others especially in the underarm and for pubic hair. People who don't see results just need more sessions but that can of course be costly. And yes it hurts lol, it feels like rubber bands being snapped at you.
But I love it and definitely recommend it

My wife is half way through her Brazilian. So far the pain has been minimal - but apparently they turn up the power after each session. So far it's working great - things have thinned out substantially - 3 more treatments should do it.

Many shops are suffering in the recession and are willing to make a deal - my wife is paying 50% of the advertised price.

I am paying half price for laser hair removal. I do have red hair. I am nearly finished with my underarm treatments. I have 2 left and I do notice quite a bit of thinning, but I still have hair that needs to be shaved. That is fine by me because it used to take me 10-15 swipes with a razor to get a clean shave on each pit (with a new razor), now it takes about 4 or 5, making for less razorburn than ever before! I can totally live with that.

Currently, I am only doing the underarms because I have complete numbness that comes and goes (and decides to stick around for months on end)on one side of my trunk (MS related). I have done some serious damage trying to shave. I have zero feeling on one pit; didn't even know I hurt myself until I saw all the blood. Could have been LOTS worse. My neurologist suggested I try laser hair removal after seeing what I had done.

I am hoping they will tell me they are going to tack on 2 more treatments (I think I would need that many more). But since my hair is red (and that is what is mostly left) I don't know if it is completely doable or not. We shall see how the next 2 treatments go.

I was thinking of trying the bikini area, but when I went in and talked to the nurse about it, she didn't think I would be happy with the results and I am not willing to risk $1000 to find out.

I'd like to try but unfortunately it is quite expensive. So perhaps in the future.

I am interested in it. I'd like to have hairless underarms and a brazilian without having to shave or maintain it.

I'm interested, but for the cost I would expect it to completely work for good. From what I have been told, they can't guarentee it and that there usually still is some hair on some customers. What a rip!

I understand - my sister in-law has red hair and it's a no-go for her as well. I hear the ideal is light skin and dark hair - luckily that describes my wife's hair and skin.

I'd skip it if you are a redhead or have light hair. Not worth the high risk it won't be effective.

I would deff do it if they could garuantee the outcome.

The thing I don't like about laser hair removal is that it sounds like something it isn't. I was interested at one time, so I investigated it. It's totally cost-prohibitive for me, but even if it weren't I wouldn't want to do it. It's not like you get treated 6 times and then never have hair again. You will still have to shave and hair will grow back. It will be less hair, but there will still be hair. I guess it would probably be quicker and easier to shave, since there would be less hair, I just feel like it's kind of a rip off.

Interesting perspective. My wife is very pleased with the result. She never has to worry about being itchy or prickly, taking a quick whack at few stray hairs once a week or so savers her a ton of time.

As for me - I couldn't be happier, she's smooth all the time - instead of worrying about '5 o'clock shadow'.

Bikini area..2 years of treatments...still have fine thin hair..It would have taken more time and money than the initial investment to get rid of it all. Shaving is much easier and I don't get razor burn, but it's overpriced if you ask me.

I wanted to but its really expensive. Plus it hurts and It would either not work or grow back.
