I'm helping some friends out right now with a car situation (theirs blew up on them and they needed something to drive). They're driving my car to work and errands and stuff.

Have you ever helped out friends in a situation like this? How far would you go before it's too far outside of your comfort zone?

I have also let friends use my car when theirs just up and stopped working. Even that was hard for me to do because if something would have happened while they were driving my car, I don't know if my insurance would have covered it.

Oh it wasn't a "find out" situation. I knew all along, but if I remedied my situation then they would have been homeless. I just couldn't do it.

It REALLY depends on who it is/how long I've known them/etc. There are several friends I have that I've let know it would be fine if they had to live at my place in a pinch. Other friends I won't let borrow money anymore because they're flaky, won't pay me back, and don't spend it on what they borrowed it for.
