Depends on the coffee. When we make the good stuff at our house, we use a french press and that tastes awesome just black.
Usually, the "coffee" people serve around here tastes like it could be used as a paint remover. With that stuff, I like heavy cream or half 'n' half, and a LOT of sugar.

If its instant I'll have milk and one sugar. At cafes I go for a latte with vanilla syrup. Delicious.
