My husband likes a very firm mattress. I think he would be happiest on a board, actually. I like firm, but with a bit of give. We both have back issues and soft is just awful for us.

i like soft mattresses. i have a pillow top mattress that i love. sleeping on super firm mattresses makes my hips & knees hurt.

Rock hard! The dorm mattresses are actually too squishy and I end up on the concrete floor most nights, much better
