How hard is it to get an internship, has anyone else here tried?

I'm trying to get an internship and I've had several interviews, but haven't gotten a position yet. I'm wondering if anyone has any tips on getting an internship and how to eventually get a job after college?

try a political campaign for an (unpaid) internship. it's election season, they need interns and will take most everyone. losing campaigns, especially. depending on your state there may be a party primary you can campaign with before the general election.

just get friendly with your professors - most of them know people who work in the industry you want to work in, and will help you if they think you're good enough

I would think it depends on the field you're trying to get into.

Ask the job placement or career development center of your college - business are always looking for employees they don't have to pay. (or that may just be how internships are run in FL.)

When I was in college, before I went into nursing, I was a pre-med and psychology major. I had two internships, one unpaid and one paid. This was years ago, though, and they were not hard to come by. (There was less legal and liability crap back then, and even hospitals weren't too worried and gave out internships regularly. My unpaid internship was at the children's ward of a huge mental health facility. It actually made me rethink my desire to maybe go into child psychology or Pediatric Neurology. It was a pretty grim set up.)

My daughter, who is in Grad School now, has been looking for an internship in Library Work and has been having a hard time finding one. Due to the inflated price of college, she needs a job, to pay for her necessities, her school loans etc. Her loan schedule is brutal!

We aren't asking for rent right now, due to the economy even when living at home with us, but she also needs library experience to eventually get a job in Library Science when she earns her MS in Library Science in about a year. My daughter is hoping she'll get more help from the Grad School she is attending (the large, but affordable state college she attended was worthless in helping students find internships.) She also knows she needs to use resources to look on her own.

I really hope both you and she find one soon.

Totally depends on the area you're looking for the internship in. :/ Good luck!
