How have "typos" gotten you into trouble?

Contributor: ToyGurl ToyGurl
So everyone makes typos. We make them here on EF in our reviews, and all over the internet in e-mails, tweets, etc. Even on our cell phones in text messages!

How have "typos" gotten you into trouble in your life? Did you send a drunk text and fail to fix your auto-correct? Or accidentally send an e-mail to your boyfriend's father who is also named the same as him? Tell us your stories!

P.S. - I'm accepting students on the spot for the next two days! Regardless of low ratings or amount of reviews! To learn more please private message me or join my class at the bottom of my page!

Typos on the forum kind of irk me - because in most cases the spell checker must be ignored to allow the error to be made. But I have to admit that I have done it - in cases where it's a real word, but the wrong context so the spell checker doesn't work.

It would be interesting if EF included a grammar checker. This would help eliminate the kinds of mistakes that I tend to make.

Overall spelling errors are more of an embarrassment than a problem.

I hate the auto-spell checker on my phone. It assumes I want a particular word based on the first few letters and will put it in place of whatever I am typing. I have texted my mother and realized this happened only after she sent me back a response asking what the hell "whore heartedly" meant. I had intended for it to be "whole heartedly" of course. Another time, I was bitching to my husband (in an email) about something my son's teacher had said to me earlier that day and I made the unfortunate mistake of emailing it directly to her instead of my husband. oops! I NEVER send angry emails ANYMORE! Anger is meant for someone to hear, not read. Lesson learned. That made for an uncomfortable year.

While making comments or writing to people, and I'm always wide awake. It just happens, I'll be typing and make a mistake that I fail to see. Then I say it, and I think to myself, "Oh shit..."

I use to have a phone that did that. My Android phone makes suggestions but they appear on a bar below the message, so you have to touch them to accept them. Android is the way to go!

I have an LG fathom that thinks it's nice to add random letters in whenever it wants. No joke. I wont even press a button and it will start adding letters. And sometimes those letters spell out things... Bad things...

I turned in a research paper when I was a junior in high school, and I was finishing it at 4 in the morning. I kept making typos such as: sit-shit, shut-shit, cut-cunt. Spell check didn't do anything because they are words, and I didn't have time to read over my paper before I turned it in. Thankfully, my teacher was really lazy that year and she only saw a few "shits," but she just circled them on my paper and counted it as bad spelling.

I once misspelled the name of my thesis adviser via email so that it sounded funny. It was unintentional, of course. She took a lot of time to answer, but she did not mention it. But I am still awfully embarrassed about it.

I don't think I've done anything highly noticeable typo wise. My speech might become more incoherent if I am up too late though, if that counts.

OMG! LOL This is hilarious! I made a hilarious typo today on Facebook! lol I take care of my neices and nephews and the oldest is 13 so he just recently got a facebook account & For the past 2 weeks he's been carelessly leaving the his facebook page pulled up while he runs around. Since he's out of school for the summer, he just leaves his page up all day in the kitchen and that way he can see a new notification every time he walks by. lol Anyways, the youngest boy is 11 and I won't let him have a facebook just yet SO he's very interested in it.

So, when my oldest leaves the kitchen, I've been typing stuff into his status bar which y'all know posts publicly! It's hilarious. So far I've caught him every day with a good status! lol Today, he was in the bathroom & my youngest asked me if I would please type something funny into his status while he was away. So I couldn't resist. I had to hurry because we heard him coming and I accidentally typed "HAIR...BALLZ!" LOL hahaha! I had to admit it & announce to his friends that it was not really him because it was a little dirty sounding for kids. lol Hilarious though!

I know the feeling. It seems like when I do it, the typo always has to be something extremely stupid. Like I'll type what I'm singing (which isn't always pleasant) or I'll leave out words.

A lot of the time I accidentally text to the wrong people. My fiance's name and my current tutor's name are very similar, and I accidentally texted a very dirty message to him on accident. So embarrassing.

I once misspelled a big, famous author's name (in my field of study) on my term paper whose theories figured in pretty prominantly. 18 pages of the wrong name...

Mine is not so much trouble, as it was funny.
I was typing an email about possible forged documents to my district commissioner (GGC) and when I entered SACKVILLE, it was autocorrected ILLEGAL.

I guess autocorrect never head of Sackville.
