Do you smoke? For how long? When did you quit if you are a previous smoker. Why did you quit?

I am a smoker that has smoked for about 25 years. I quit while pregnant until my child was about a year old and then restarted when I bartended. I know it is a serious health risk but honestly have no desire to quit yet.

my fiance smoked from the age of 17 until just after his 23'rd birthday. he smoked heavily and pulled out the filters. one day he woke up and decided he was done smoking, which lead him to drinking for a brief time but instead he replaced the alcohol and cigarettes with ben and jerrys and mac n' cheese. he's a skinny dude though so he could afford the calories. best cold turkey method i think that could have possibly worked for him. it's been a year and a half now and he's still off cigs.

tried it, hated it, always have hated it. It is one of the single most disgusting habits on this planet, one of many. But considering how many people do it you get the idea. I'm so glad to made it illegal to smoke in all restaurants and bars here in Wisconsin. I was sick of going into a bar and almost throwing up due to the sickening smell. I refuse to date anyone who smokes either. lol sorry its just something i feel strongly about. I'm not saying people who smoke are bad, or that I dislike them. Just can't be around the smell at all.

I smoked for about 16 years. I've quit when I realized that this habit did not make me healthier... That was almost three years ago and I hope that wasn't too late.

So far, I have no desire to resume smoking and I'm quite happy with that.

I smoked on and off since I was 17. I quit a little over a year ago and switched to ecigs. My ecig has been a blessing and probably the only reason I've managed not to start smoking again.

I smoked from about 15 years old, for about 25 years, and then quit about 20 years ago. I started with a pipe, because I thought it was cool, and so did my GF. Switched to cigarettes later 'cause a pipe was just too much of a PIA. Now when I am around someone who smokes, I think they stink. And my wife put up with that for years. Shes a saint. I guess I'll keep her!

I started when I was about 14, and a few months ago (I'm 23) I quit for the most part. I've never been a heavy smoker and always smoked more out of habit than because I was addicted. I could easily go weeks at a time without smoking if I had to, it never bothered me. When my last carton ran out I just didn't buy more. Now I bum off of friends when I've been drinking and that's about it.

Never.

The addiction aspect is very scary!

I started around 15 and smoked until my junior year of college. I didn't have plans to quit but a friend pulled some reverse psychology on me and told me that I couldn't do it (quit). And that cigarettes were controlling me and that I was weak. So clearly, that was a challenge. I quit right then, went to the bar the next night (you could still smoke in NY bars then) and stuck it out. Best thing I ever did was quit!

I started when I was 17 or so and quit for almost a year. A non-smoker will never be able to understand the addiction of smoking, unless they've done crack or something.

I've never smoked and neither does my husband, but I grew up in a house where both my parents smoked and my older brother so I was around it all the time. My best friend smokes around me when we're together.

I quit September, 2010. I still very occasionally bum a cigarette from a friend, but for the most part, I don't smoke anymore. And I smoked for about 14 years. Even as a smoker, though, I couldn't -stand- the smell of cigarettes, so that's been my saving grace in terms of not wanting to go back to it. It just stinks, and I can't deal with it. Ick.

I started smoking when I was 14, and quit 5 months ago (at age 21). I haven't had so much as a drag since July 20th. I know some people say that occasionally smoking (a drag or a whole cigarette) doesn't count as "cheating", and doesn't mean you have to "start over"... But I know if I allowed myself to give in to the cravings and take a drag, I'd be right back where I was before. Quitting is too damn hard to keep doing it over and over again.
I quit because my partner has respiratory problems, and tends to get sick from smoke, dust, or other allergens. Also, I really notice scents, and I hated always smelling like cigarette smoke instead of my perfume or soap.

I've never gotten into smoking. I tried it when I was eighteen, couldn't get into it. My boyfriend smokes, but not a lot when he's alone with me.

I have never smoked. I had an aunt who was a chain smoker, and at age 60, she looked about age 90. She died at 62, shrunken, balding, a mass of wrinkles, with lung cancer and emphysema, and on oxygen 17 hours a day. She took the oxygen out to smoke.

I was in my early teens when she died, and it certainly made up my mind to never touch tobacco.

We both smoke in this house, but we aren't "addicted" to smoking in the classical sense. We can go months (or years if we wanted) without smoking, and we both prefer to smoke between fall and decent winter days or on long drives. Neither of us really crave them, so we don't see a reason to quit.

I smoke once in a blue moon. Honestly, it's not something I ever truly need to do.
