How Much Money

Contributor: Hot'n'Bothered Hot'n'Bothered
This is something I've been thinking of for quite a while.

Now if you DON'T have really long hair, pretend for a second that you do.

Now, how much would someone have to pay you to get you to shave your head, or..at least go a short pixie.

Men, would you totally freak out if your wife/gf did this?

My hair is currently to the base of my tailbone, a while back I discovered you can actually sell your hair and in some cases make a pretty penny. I've donated to locks of love several times in the past. But with money tight I can't exactly turn down the extra money, should it come around. (though I'm only interested in cutting just above the shoulder, it'd have to be a VERY pretty penny to go shorter..)..

Just curious what YOUR price would be!

I donate my locks every few years and right now it is really long. It's getting close to my butt, so I'm cutting it soon. It would take a lot of money to get me to cut it into a pixie. There is no amount that I would shave it off for.

But, for a pixie it would have to be around $50,000. And that would only be if I was still needing money for school etc. otherwise the price would be even higher

My hair grows REALLY fast (per my stylist, my hair consistently grows faster than any woman, even pregnant women, that she's ever worked on) so it wouldn't be a huge deal to me because I'd have it back pretty quickly. To go to a bob length, $500 or $1000....a pixie would cost a few grand though only because I like having my hair long-ish. It's actually being trimmed (and tipped blue, I refuse to 'grow up' per say) tonight.

Sexy! Tipped blue is hotness.

For me to shave off ALL my hair... 100,000.

I did have my hair down to about my tailbone as well, but it was a pain in the ass the whole time - always kept clipped up because it was too hot in Florida, my ex-husband kept rolling onto it in bed and pinning my head down, the landlords accused my hair of clogging up the drains in the apartment (it was actually their lousy plumbing that they hadn't replaced since the place was built), etc. When I finally cut it to jaw-length I donated it to the cancer wig makers (despite all the coloring they said it was in very good condition) and my ex-husband wouldn't speak to me for two days after he got over the crying fit. Since then (2003) it's been shoulder length or shorter.

I don't think I could ever do a shave or pixie (Sinead O'Conner or Mia Farrow, erm ... no), but selling what I have? Sure. I'd be lucky to get $50 per foot out of it, though, if I let it grow past my shoulders. I don't have high expectations from wig makers if they charge only $200 for a human hair wig at only jaw length.

I really think you and I could've been married to the same, pitiful first husband sometimes...I came home with my hair cut from being down to my ass, to my shoulders one day after work because I was tired of it and wanted a change and hey, it's my hair. He wouldn't talk to me and when I asked why, I was told that I was ugly with short hair. What a way to waste 6 years...

With mine I honestly think it was his unusual attachment to his mother...he didnt' think women should have short hair because his mom never did (she could sit on hers but it had been sooo abused and sooo need to be chopped off and let to kind of replenish itself) - so he didn't think I was being a proper girl by cutting it. Weirdo!

My hair (on my head) grows very slowly and my growth cycle stops and the hair follicle stops producing and the individual hairs fall out when it gets somewhere between my shoulder blades and the middle of my back. My hair is thick and curly (I attack it with lotions and straight irons almost daily to keep it straight.) but, although I used to wear it as long as possible, that means I have a lot of split ends, so I just get it trimmed every 6 months or so, which is enough to keep my hair about the length of right between my shoulder blades.

I had my hair cut, professionally, when I graduated college.(The guy did it too short, and then went on about my curls, while I almost cried at the 8 inches of it on the floor, when I told him "No more than 3-4 inches at the most.") I got married a full year later, and it wasn't more than a few inches longer.

I also look weird with short hair, my fact is heart shaped, with a pointy chin and with high cheekbones and I look weird, like Wednesday Addams weird, with short hair.

I don't think much could persuade me to cut my hair short and nothing could to shave my head. I have a large head for my body and I'd look like a giant baby! No thanks.

I do a lot of volunteer work, I think Locks of Love can do without my damaged, over processed, not very strong hair. I can do other things for charity.

Although my hair is relatively short now (not Pixie short), I did have hair down to my knees at one time and got it cut above my shoulders. It was all pulled back in a loose ponytail and then cut. Since it was so long, uncolored and in such good condition, I sold it to a wig maker that used human hair. I did not get it cut in order to sell it, but because I actually wanted it shorter due to the headaches the length and weight of it caused. This was in the 1970's...and I only got a little more than five hundred dollars (U.S.Dollars) for it. Since then I (and my husband) have donated to Locks of Love several times.

I have really long hair now, though I have been bald before as well. I wouldn't shave my head for money.

I dunno, a couple extra hundred would be nice for sure, and I prolly would cut it very short (hell I do now anyway into boy cuts due to my work, can't have long hair) but it's short already so yeah, lol.

I had butt-length hair growing up. My mother would never let me cut it because she thought it was so pretty. When I was going into Middle School I decided that I wanted to cut it, and she finally let me. It went to my shoulders. Then to a bob. Then to a pixie, all within maybe 3 months. It stayed very short (above the shoulders) for six years after that.

I just cut my hair yesterday to shoulder-length from being below my bra strap. I guess I don't think about giving hair away or cutting it for a price.

If my boyfriend didn't always swear "If you cut your hair that short I would leave you", then if I had really long hair I'd cut it to a pixie for a couple hundred bucks. To me, it's just hair, and mine looks better short anyways.

Yikes on the spouses reactions!!

Hubby of course makes it known that he does like mine long, and will miss it when I do finally cut it....but he fully realizes that it's my hair and tells me to do what I want. Good cause It's becoming a pain to take care of.....my shampoo bill is insane...hehe

Interesting numbers too...I was thinking like 10k for shaving...and I thought that was steep!

My hair was about to my mid-back when I cut it into a pixie about 3 years ago. My hair was just ridiculously long and thick and I chopped it off just in time for summer. I let it grow out again and 2 months ago chopped it off again for an assymmetrical bob. Now I kind of miss the length! But doesn't that always happen?

Here's link an interesting site for hair buyers and sellers - it mainly deals with hair used for artistic purposes (like the hair art of the Victorian era).

It's ... strange (read: like a slave market) when sellers are advertising "100% VIRGIN HAIR - UNTOUCHED". It merely means the hair had NOT been processed (dyed, permed, had heated appliances used on it, etc) while growing. Apparently you'd get higher rates if you don't put chemicals into it and even better rates if you're healthy to begin with since everything we put into our bodies ends up in our hair, too. No smoking or drinking or drugging, and stay on a healthy diet and take your vitamins.

Although I see a bias towards thick hair over fine - having a ponitail circumference of four inches is desirable for buyers.

Fascinating, nonetheless.

I wouldn't have to be paid anything, as I was completely bald for the span of about a month earlier this year. I had a little mishap while buzzing my hair down to an inch (forgot the guard) and so I went bald. Let me tell you, it was completely freeing! I've never been one for high-maintenance hair and being bald was lovely. Now, I've got a mohawk and I need to get the sides shaved again. hehe I don't see myself having long hair again for a very long time, if ever.

I wouldn't freak out if my girl did this, but I would be annoyed. I like long, flowing hair to play with! But if the price was exorbitantly high, then I'd not mind so much
