I throw stuff out daily. I hate to keep nasty stuff in the fridge. If it is even a few days old, out it goes. Very rare to find anything green and moldy in any of my Rubbermaid containers. You open the fridge several times a day, why not give a quick glace and keep the new stuff sorted and let the old stuff go. Then you never have to do a real "fridge purge" as we do at work.

Usually it's a daily thing, in with the new out with the old. When things get hectic, and with four active kiddo's it get active, then it's for sure once a week on garbage night.
And yes, we have certainly found that which can not be explained in there occasionally. When that happens it goes in the trash container and all.

We try and do it once a week. Sometimes we're not great about it. The one that's bad for me is the fridge at work. I share an office with only two other people, so often we'll neglect cleaning out the fridge. That's when you'll find some funky stuff.

We try and eat left overs so nothing goes bad. So, we clean everything out constantly through nomming.

I toss things out daily as needed, but always do a thorough job once a week. I don't like to find nasty surprises.

I do it about twice a month. I'm pretty good about eating most of my leftovers, but sometimes some of my fruit, veggies, and yogurt go bad before I can eat them.
