How often do you take what other people say seriously when they post on discussion?

Contributor: mcl272 mcl272
I was just wondering who cared, liked & took serious what other people had to say about certain topics. I've noticed that some people really open up, some don't & others seem to do it for the points involved. Do you learn something from the people that open up? Do you take away tips etc..?

Both. I take some contributors and their posts seriously, if the information they've provided are wise and useful. I couldn't care less, or even skip some of the posts, when I sense the threads are just for farming points.

There are all levels of expertise here, so I wouldn't want to dismiss someone who is new to all this and has a few questions, but I will ignore discussions that I have no desire to participate in.

I take some serious, and I do learn from some.

I don't understand why someone would "lie" in a post? Most people who post something have no reason to lie..? I don't really understand what you mean by "take them seriously"? Do you mean like, if someone shares something about their life, then by not taking them seriously, we do not believe them? Or do you mean if something could offend you and take it seriously in the sense of getting angry about it?

I LOVE reading what others have to say. Especially since I am no toy-expert (I am quite new to toys actually).I assume that everyone who posts is telling the truth, but that's because I really can't see someone going to such great lengths to post a lie... I'm not even sure if that is what you meant by your question. I didn't vote on the poll yet because I'm going to wait until I fully understand the question.

I really love hearing peoples opinions or experiences because it helps broaden my own knowledge. I've learnt a lot of different things while just browsing the forum and reading different peoples' posts. I thought I was educated on the subject of "sex" before joining here, but I was so wrong lol.. Compared to most people here, I know nothing of it!

Certain subjects I have no interest in, so I tend not to reply to those threads.. but sometimes I do read them just because I am curious as to what is being said about the subject. So I take them seriously yes, but if it is about a subject I have no interest in, then I don't necessarily "care". If that makes any sense at all lol

when i posted the question, i had just read a HORRIBLE review that someone left towards another person! saying that they didn't care about what they had to say, they didn't know what they were talking about etc.. i didn't mean seriously as someone 'lying' but as if you the reader actually read what they had to say & took it into consideration. like i sometimes compare what someone says to what i do, giving me the sense of taking it 'seriously' instead of being like 'they don't have the same opinions or do the same things i do so i don't care'

Couldn't have said it better myself. It all depends on the user, and what I know of them.

I believe most of the posts on here are honest and either asking for advice or information. I have made some silly, serious and just curious threads and discussions. It depends on my mood which type I post. I assume most people post due to the different facets of their personality, not because they need to b.s. anyone. After all, most of us are anonymous.

Pretty much both. If it's a point-farming thread, then I'll treat it as such. If it's a jokey, humorous thread, like the ones about cracked articles, then I'll not take that as seriously, for obvious reasons. But if it's a serious discussion then, of course, I'll treat it as seriously as I can. Sure, I'd still joke around, but that's who I am. But, yes, I treat it all quite seriously.

When more than 70% select other - it makes me think the question - or the answer set was not well thought out.

For me, I take a few things seriously, but not many.

I do learn a lot about certain contributors posts. When I see them post on a subject I'm interested in, I pay special attention to what they have to say.

Many of the people who post opinions that are contradictory to my own simply haven't been on the planet long enough to know better. I'll bet you a cup of coffee that if they were asked their views on the same topics in another thirty years, they would've changed their mind.

I take most reviews seriously.. especially if I know that the contributor and I have similar preferences.

As far as the forum goes, yes, I do take what people say seriously even if I don't agree or if they happen to express their opinions differently from how I do. I love getting to know people who are different from myself and I feel like it makes me a well-rounded person as well.

I sometimes read what others have to say but mostly just skim through it. I think people talk out of their butts sometimes and wouldn't actually say some things in real life like they can on here. So I take everything with salt.

I take what people say seriously, but I don't every get offended. Different people, different opinions.

Now, if you're referring to taking medical "facts" people post as seriously, I take things with a grain of salt. If I've never heard something before, I'll do research instead of jumping on it. If a post says, "My friend in med school told me that if I bathe in balsamic vinegar, I'll lose 20 pounds," I'm going to do some research before I head to the grocery store.

Unless I have seen a user give misinformation in several different places, I always give what they say a chance. I think that can be said about any forum or any group of people in general.

Sometimes yes sometimes no. It depends on the thread and the post content.

But I think that is the good thing about this community, here we can share things with each other (weather it be preferences, fantasies, or whatever) that we may not necessarily be able to tell the people we know in our "real lives"

I agree with this. I think a lot of people would be more honest here than in real life, especially when talking about sexual things because the community is focused on sexuality... where as not everyone in your "real life" may be so open with you, or non-judgemental.

Same here! Some questions are just silly and others are for discussion. The discussion ones I take seriously!

I think it depends on what the post is about. So very hard to tell.
