Huricane Sandy - Are you in its path?

Contributor: Loriandhubby Loriandhubby
Hello, I was wondering how many from our community are expected to be effected by Sandy.

Are you going to be effected? If so how are you preparing?

We are expecting snow and high winds. The power crews were already cheaking into the hotel today. The gas station in our community was out of gas.

Good luck to all who are in Sandy's path. Please be smart and safe.

I live on the other side of the country, and am not in Sandy's path. I hope all the EFers living on the Northeast coast are well prepared for the long-term power outages that are expected to happen - stock up on food and water, and have a portable home generator available. Stay safe everyone!

We are in the warning path. We already received our warnings for high wind and what have you, but we have candles ready just incase we lose power.

Do you have any dollar stores near you? They might carry "Tap" lights that are battery-powered, they're safer and better than using candles.

I don't know really, I think it might swing round close enough to do a bit of damage...but I keep forgetting to watch the weather so I can't say really.

We prepared as best we could just to be safe.

We're barely in the path, so we're just dealing with rain and flooding. I'm on the same grid as a hospital, so we don't usually lose power for long.

Yes, but I'm hoping that it's being blown out of proportion. I think it won't be that bad here.

I live in SC, so it barely grazed us. We got some rain from it on Saturday and some high winds. but other than that we got nothing. We are lucky it missed us.
For those who are in the storm's path:
Good luck and be safe!

Here it's been mostly heavy rain and really strong winds - only the latter at the moment. I wound up staying home from work. Public transit has shut down for the whole city and is likely to stay shut down until sometime tomorrow so I couldn't get in anyway. Why in the everloving hell my store was open when the majority of the city has basically shut down is beyond me.

Aside from that, I'm not overly worried. Row-homes don't blow in too easily and my area never floods, so the big danger right now is a loss of power. Something out in the back alley is popping and spraying electric sparks all over the place, so I wouldn't be surprised if some of my neighbors are in the dark right now. I've got candles and few flashlights (including one that's charged by a hand-crank), so I can at least have some light if the electricity goes.
