The inspiration for this thread is actually two fold. I was thinking about one of the videos I watched last night and looking at my own nails. Since we're going on vacation next month I considered letting them grow back out.

That is until I went to unload the dishwasher this morning and scratched the hell out of me knee. My nails are thin and sharp, like razor blades. When my hubby and I got into anal play, I agreed to keep them short to avoid damaging sensitive areas.

My Man and I were watching the news the other night and some woman with 20 inch nails or some horrible thing was on, saying she wanted to "get on Oprah and start her career" by showing her nails, or some silly thing. They were real, and curled and yellow and she evidently spent about $200.00 a week having them "manicured" or something. [Shudder]

We're both looking at these claws this woman had, and I said, "How does she use a phone, or hold a baby or....." I stopped and My Man started to laugh and said, "Masturbate?" We both started to laugh and he said no woman with claws like that would ever get near his stuff. I do get acrylics from time to time, but they are fairly short.

Also, I've worked with babies for years, and really long nails should never be around babies.

Redbox, you are right. Some hospitals have required nurses to have nails and acrylics be removed or cut if they get beyond a certain length. Really long acrylics can harbor bacteria and fungus and were found to be one of the dirtiest spots (next to doctor's ties) in most hosptials.

I have very short nails, and I used to bite them all the time (still do now and again, but I am working on breaking the habit).

When I was in massage therapy school there was a rule that your nails could not go past the end of your fingers. I never had issues with it, but it was a big deal. People would be told to cut their nails all the time. It seems pretty obvious to me though. If you're supposed to be helping people relax, "claws" will rarely do that.

I keep mine medium length, but I avoid touching my partner with my nails specifically anywhere sensitive. I wish his nails were shorter however, he's made me bleed by fingering me when it's been awhile since he last trimmed. Not so fun. His is out of laziness though.

I try to grow mine out so that they're long enough that I can hear them when I tap my fingers on something. They look better painted that way. If my husband asks me to cut them for a specific reason, I will, but I normally just let them grow until they either break, or start to affect my ability to do things comfortably.

I can't grow my nails out because they always break. I must need more calcium. No matter, I prefer short nails. I can't stand tips. The few times I've gotten them I always end up ripping them off because I want my own short nails. In the past I a guy told me he liked longer nails and I should grow mine out or get tips.
