If You Could Own Your Own Retail Store..

I wouldn't mind trying to run my own bar/grill/theatre, but that's not exclusively retail though. I would also love to have a restoration shop that sells restored antiques and firearms, but that's not exclusively retail either. As much as I love EF, I don't think a novelty retail store would be able to compete with on-line retailers like EF unless it had some gimmick. I don't know what that'd be for me.

Art Gallery and Studio is my personal dream.

There's a store called Crazy Wisdom around here. It has a lot of new age books and there's a tea room upstairs.

I'd love to run something like a new and used bookstore with a lot of paperbacks and also new age/spiritual books, crystals, incense, vintage books, lil Buddha and Ganesha statues, a few novelties. And have a lil coffee/tea area with pastries and tea and lattes. That's the dream. It would have comfy places to sit down. The store would be really welcoming looking and just warm colors and very open. I'd love to run somewhere like that ugh.

I'd also love to run an adult store and have a lot of regular stuff and then a room with BDSM/fetish stuff that isn't carried in generic sex stores. And lingerie that isn't tacky as hell and comes in bigger sizes. There were some really cute boyshorts at the local adult superstore. The biggest size was a medium and I was like ummm in what world is that a medium? Medium child size? I don't know anyone who could fit in those. But yeah Eden yall better watch out I will be COMPETITION. (not really)

Another store I loved in Ann Arbor that sadly went out of business a while ago was called Acme Mercantile. It just had a bunch of little gag items. Stuff like bacon shaped band-aids, those offensive notepads where you can check stuff off and hand them to people. idk what they're called, like a snarky to do list type thing or 'reasons you're an asshole', those horse masks that people on the internet wear, pickle flavored toothpicks, etc. Just a bunch of novelty stuff and a few household things. I'm not explaining it well. They also were the only places downtown where you could get household stuff like lightbulbs. That store was really fun and it would be cool to run something like that.

OH also I want to make a very upscale restaurant with fancy shish kebabs, gourmet corndogs, marinated lamb on a skewer. And my fancy resturant will be called Shit On A Stick. If u steal that idea I will sue you for stealing my creative property or something because it's one of my better ideas.

Computers and all sorts of tekkie stuff. I'm a big gadget person and probably could open a store with what I own now. I always hang out at computer stores or hardware stores in the tools section, especially the electronic ones.

Chocolate or ice cream store...maybe a small casual restaurant or photo gallery. Sporting goods specialty.

It would be a boardsports shop. I don't live right on the coast or in the mountains, but I love surfing and snowboarding. I do live very close to a popular lake, and there is little in the way of legit wakeboard sellers. So, I would want to sell wakeboards and hopefully work something out to stock some new and used surfboards, some cruiser skateboards, and a few snowboards. Of course then I would have to have the bindings, boots, ropes, vests, leashes, traction pads, goggles, boardshorts, wetsuits, jackets, etc. Then there are the t-shirts, shoes, sandals, hats, sunglasses. I honestly think I could do an amazing job with it, but I don't believe there is quite the demand to support it here. I daydream about it often.

Other! I would totally run a Halloween and assorted costumes/props type of shop.

My other equally loved choice would be a food/theatre venue. Sexy cocktails and creative food, and a kickass black box theatre/photography space.

Honestly, I think my best bet would be to run both, and sell off the props and costumes at the same time.

The main business would be a tea room, but it would also sell gourmet treats, original jewelry, handmade beauty products, and "hopeless romantic" home accessories.

I do own my own retail business. I design, produce and manufacture signs, decals, bumper stickers, memorial and dedication plaques, ADA signage and so much more....

I would not have chosen this as my store but the opportunity was wide open as an employee and I purchased the store. I would rather have a vintage cycle store......

I've always wanted to own a sex shop.

My shop will offer specialty foods and drinks.

I'd love to own a craft store.

Either food, or a store that sold things I built.

My husband and I have talked about getting a food truck, selling local grass-finished beef burgers and pastured pork brats, etc. I think the whole concept of food trucks is very cool.

I've also thought about opening a wine shop specializing in Italian wines. I even have a name for it: Vino Amore.

I could do musical instruments, or bicycles, or maybe outdoor gear. If it was bikes, it would be an underrepresented niche like transportation/commute r cycling. I could also see myself buying and selling antiques. It all SEEMS like it would be fun, and I'll bet it would be — at first. But I have a feeling the day to day grind of it would quickly suck all the fun out of it!
