In your apartment/house/dorm/c ave/underwater lair, do you keep the doors open or closed?

I keep the doors closed for a few or one of several reasons:

- my dogs are mess makers. any room with carpets is bound to get peed on, and I don't feel like re-carpeting my new home

- I now have an entire closet for my sex toys since I can't find a lock box big enough. I would rather not have my family members finding them, even though they are all in little bags and boxes. I keep that closet door locked and closed when it is not in use.

- When I close the door I am 100% certain I have turned off the light. I have a bad habit of leaving lights on and wasting energy. So if I see a door closed, I see that as a sign that I turned the light off.

- I have family in and out of town a lot. I close doors to rooms that I don't want them to be in. I have a brand new home, and I wish to keep it in good condition. I set aside two guest rooms, and those doors can stay open just so they can find their way.

- When I clean my house, I go by seperate rooms. When a room is cleaned, I close the door to remind myself that it's been done already. Most bedrooms are painting and decorated very similarly so it's hard to remember. Especially with my Epilepsy... I forget everything!

I needed an 'other' category. For the most part, I leave the doors open, except my bedroom door, which I keep locked because the others I live with don't really believe in personal space.

That, and I have a porn stash I'd rather they not find.

I agree with starkiller87...I am so used to having the doors open, that when they are closed (for no reason) it is quite unsettling.

Downstairs, I keep most of the doors open (my little 3 year old neighbor goes around my house and closes all the doors whenever he comes over. Most toddlers do that, as did mine. I don't know what they get out of it. ) Upstairs, people usually keep their bedroom doors closed most of the time.

This summer it's been SO hot, that I try to keep both doors to our bedroom open to circulate the air. We are the last to get the A/C and it's so freaking hot in our bedroom. Our ceiling fan broke about a week ago, so the circulation is even more important lately. Our little one likes to watch TV in our room in the evening sometimes, and I have to keep reminding her to keep my door open so we don't roast when we go to bed. Of course when we do go to bed, the doors are closed.

I hate open closet doors, so they are closed all the time. It looks messy and it could let monsters out.

It REALLY bugs me when I'm at someone's place and all their doors are closed. It feels like they're hiding stuff.

The only door we close usually is the bathroom door. For some reason, one of the cats likes to pee in the shower, even if his litter box is clean and he knows where it is. Other than that, it's my own place, so I don't bother closing doors.

I'm in an apartment with roommate. Roommate has a cat, so I keep the door to my room closed, but other doors in apartment stay open

Doors remain closed except when it's hot and I'm trying to get a breeze going. Then doors are open and fans are in windows blowing from one end of the house to the other.

I tend to keep the doors open that will stay open. Some close cause we have a 100+ yr old house and they just don't all stay open.

Exterior doors stay shut (and locked) while the interior doors it depends on what they lead to...

Closets, laundry room, and an unused room attached to the garage all stay shut and the doors to the rest of the house stay open (offices, bedrooms, etc...), except at night, we close the offices and master bathroom doors to keep the cats and light out of the bedroom so we can sleep in a room as dark as possible.

I live with family and keep my door not only shut, but locked too. The rest of the doors in the house are usually open a crack for out pets to pass through. The front door is open unless it's yucky outside, but the screen door is always closed.

In my house in Canada, it was a giant of a house, when a bedroom was not in use, we had the door shut to prevent dust taking over and to save on the bills to cool everything down.

In my apartment here in China... all my windows are always open, the only door that is closed is my front door. I like the sun shine coming in at all hours.

We keep most of our doors open, aside from the bathroom door, which is only because when it is open, it blocks the walkway.

I usually keep all doors closed, like bedroom doors and such. Especially at night. I just can't fall asleep with an open door.

We keep all the doors open (except the bathroom when someone's in it, obviously xD ).
I'd love to close the door to the bedroom once in a while but there is no door. =|

I am hiding stuff! I'm a notoriously bad housekeeper, so if someone is coming over, I shove all the mess into the bedrooms and close the doors! There are just some people who don't need to know I fail at cleaning.

Interior doors stay open for air circulation. We're having sex if the bedroom door is closed. Exterior doors stay closed most of the time, locked at night, of course.
