Yup, sources report that he's dead at 70.

Wow, it seems it's been a bad year for crazy dictators. I wonder if any others will kick it before 2012.

Um. His dictatorship is not over... his favorite son will now be taking over.

true, but given the protests worldwide, any rebellion groups in north korea may use this as their opportunity to try to over throw the regime. The ensuing chaos of the transition, coupled with kim Jong un being in his twenties will give rebels the best chance possible to enact rapid, radial change.

It really is amazing that so many of these cants are being overthrown and/or killed in the same year. Even more incredible is that regular, working, pissed off people were directly responsible. 2012 has a lot to live up to (although the end of the Earth will easily top it).

Unlikely. See Elnoa's and Cleansing's posts as to why.

Let's hope this will be the best turnout! But even though he's only in his twenties, his nutcase father has been training him for years to take over.

I'm optimistic also that things will turn out for the best.

I doubt there will be any change. North Koreans are so sequestered from the outside world that most don't realize there is something better out there.

yes, seriously. this may not be the best thing for the world right now. eastern Asian politics are about to get a lot more interesting, unfortunately.

I agree with Jaimes. There likely won't be any change. Unless we go over there and occupy...which would be incredibly stupid of us to do at this point in the game.

Every time a dictator like this dies, there's a chance the next one won't be quite so successful at repression.
