It just came to me that Miss. Pennsylvania had posted on her Facebook account that this year’s Pageant was a fraud. She claimed that 5 finalist were already known or pre-selected by Pageant Officials before the field was narrowed down to that small group. She further claimed that the Miss. America Pageant is rigged. When she was not selected among the final 5 candidates, she resigned as Miss. PA. It made me wonder how all of you feel about the Miss. Pennsylvania’s claim or the Miss. America Pageant overall?

I don't watch, and while I don't want to knock anyone else's preferences...it's just hard for me to accept that beauty pageants could be anything OTHER than sexist. If there were some equivalent pageant for men, that would be one thing--I'd still say we're probably too hung-up on aesthetics, but whatever. But there isn't, and I can't help but get frustrated with the idea that it's totally normal to judge women based on their looks but not men.

I heard he is suing her, but I have no idea whether he'll win or lose. I do think these are all rigged to some degree, though.

I'm not really into the pageants...my mom has my whole life which made me not like them. I do think they are rigged to a point though.

Still, I really felt good when I was chosen, but I felt good for the wrong reasons. It probably would've ended up damaging me to be judged by my looks like that. I guess there are pros and cons, but these days, I am really against it. The pageant should be about more than your looks. It should be about making a difference and all that fun stuff. If that were the case and you weren't forced to be half nude in front of everyone, my ass would so be running for Miss GA!

I really don't understand the appeal to Miss USA. I always figured they were rigged, but I think that about any contest. I don't watch it. I don't think it's degrading, but it's a fine line or a gray area. I know they get dibs for being part of it and winning, but seems like the only time women are taken seriously is when we walk around in a two piece. Don't get me wrong, I'd walk around in a two piece if people would listen to me too. But seems to be pushing the fine line or it's in the grey area to being degrading. I do see it as sexist. Because it's all women up there. Why can't it be the co ed?
