Moms! Nail polish for kids

Contributor: RomanticGoth RomanticGoth
Do you buy special nail polish designed for your little girl or do you let her use your "big girl" nail polish? Or do you not let her use any at all?

I paint my nephew's nails. He loves having them black, like mine. It actually makes the other kids in his group jealous.

I wish my nephew would let me paint his nails, but he's in that stage where he's terrified of anything feminine.

If I had kids, I think I'd go ahead and let them use my nail polish. I remember little kids' nail polish being gummy and hard to use (maybe I just had a crappy kind), and I always felt really special using my mom's.

My daughter has some kids type of her own. I also have bought her some "big girl" polish that I like that we share. She also is allowed to use mine. My daughter is 9 so I try to treat her a little more grown up.

If they are chemical free like Zoya then yeah. There are also kid-safe polishes like Piggy Paint

I think the polish is all bascially the same.. I don't have kids, but when I was a kid I just used regular nail polish. I remember waiting forever for halloween to buy the black polish...

I don't have kids, but I certainly know my nail polish. Today's nail polish is a lot less toxic than the polish of previous decades. Most major brands now are "3-free", meaning they don't contain formaldehyde, toluene, or dibutyl pthalatate. They should be okay for any kid that is old enough to understand that nail polish shouldn't be eaten. If you're still concerned, there are a few brands of water-based nail polish. Some peel off (which is fun for kids), so no worries about the little ones needing to use remover.

We've tried the Piggy paint and don't like the way it smells. We use regular nail polish.

I am a manicurist so of course I paint her nails. If I didn't that would be just plain mean!
