Monroe piercing

I tried searching to see if there were any topics started about this and didn't see any so I decided to start one. I have been thinking about getting one for a while now but I have not been 100% sure on the idea.

First off, I know everyone has different tolerances to pain but I am curious to know if it hurt at all for you. I like to think that I have a higher pain tolerance because I do fine when I get waxed or threaded and I participate in BDSM activities with my partner. The idea of too much pain still freaks me out though so that is the main point that is stopping me.

Second, I am curious to know how long it took for yours to heal. I have been guessing that it takes 6 weeks for them to heal generally. I work two jobs and one of them doesn't allow piercings at all and I won't be working there for the summer. I am hoping that if I get it over the summer it will be be healed enough for me to take it out to go back to work.

Third, does it leave a huge hole? I really don't want an unsightly hole in my face when I am not wearing one.

Are there any other recommendations or advice you can give me?

Thanks!

I don't personally have one, so I can't give you much advice, but I can say just to be really sure you keep it super clean. My friend got an infection in hers when she got it done, and it was both painful and unsightly for a while.

Facial piercings in general are not the most painful or difficult to heal. The skin is soft and piercings are quick, you'll be fine. But, keep in mind that oral sex without a condom or dental dam for at least 8 - 10 weeks (I always say 6 months unless you are blood bonded with the person) is a huge no-no. Also keep in mind that anything that comes in contact with your gums for that long will cause erosion and recession:

There is not possibility of this, over time, it will happen, it doesn't even matter the jewelry (stud or ring), if you have it long enough (could be 10 years or 6 months depending on your body) it will happen. There's also a chance of damage to your teeth, so keep that in mind.
A Monroe is traditionally done with a fairly small gauge, if you have a real pro, you can trust them if you ask them to do it with as small a needle as possible. If the hole is between an 18 and 16, you really won't notice it when it's not in.
As with any piercing, it carries a risk of infection. It's up to you to go to the best spot in town and follow their instructions to the T, do sea-salt rinses obsessively and not touch it with your hands or otherwise fuck with it, you should have little to no issues.

Thank you both for the replies and the information! I really want to think about it before I jump in and do it.I want to know that I am 100% sure about it first.

Facial piercing hurt only for a second, and may get a little tender while healing. not anything to fret about though.

They generally take about 4 to 8 weeks to be completely healed.

You will have a hole or more like how an earring hole looks but slightly larger. I have had my labret and my lip pierced for over 17 yrs and there is a slight hole/mark ect. You can get smaller jewlery than the large initial piercing piece that the hole may heal around to make it slightly less noticable, but there will always be a hole there. I left my lip piercing out for about 5yrs a while ago and I tried to put it back in a year or so ago and the hole is still there. I am wearing it now. Haha I sound like a dinosaur..actually I pierced my lip when I was 13. Labret at 16. Tongue at 18ish

Advise: If you get the Monroe make sure that where the back of the piercing sits is high enough that it will not rub on your teeth or gums. It may not seem like much at first, but trust me...I have some permanent gum loss on that back of my lower teeth from my tongue ring rubbing for 10yrs, and I have perfect teeth, and now my dentist says I may need a gum graft so that down the road I wont lose my bottom teeth! EEK!
