I heard about it. It's outrageous, but not surprising given the power of the Big Ag industry.

I checked other. If you're referring to the law against slaughtering non-ambulatory animals, say that. I'm a little offended by the way your poll options are worded, personally. It seems to imply that people who don't know about the law are complacent sheep, mindlessly following the government, or that people who aren't as outraged by it are lazy or careless.

Unfortunately, since you weren't specific, I have no idea what you're referring to (and I can't find anything by Google without specifics). So, I couldn't vote.

I don't know what you are talking about. But if it has to do with certain cultural religious ceremonies, well I'm not crazy about animal sacrifice but with the ever growing diversity, we have to be sensitive to other cultures and I just stay out of it and act like it doesn't happen. I think the culutre I am thinking of from a class I took last quarter was the Hmong and the story I read had people all uptight about it and causing problems. I'm not talking satanic either.

They would rather us all not have a choice but between their factory farmed, disease ridden excuse for 'pigs' and no pork at all. It's all about control, not food safety or 'invasive species'-that's ridiculous! These are DOMESTIC PIGS on people's own farms. Most people have never tasted real pastured pork, or any pastured meat at all. The chicken and pork in this country is watery and tasteless and the beef is full of fat. Opposite of how it should be. What a messed up system!

I'm not familiar with this news article, but I am agreed with Raigne on the wording of the poll.

The first post is a little vague. It's important to post a link when you start a thread like this. Everyone can't be onboard with every issue unless someone links to it.

Even if bayosgirl's link was correct, it is an interesting topic, but I was not aware of it.

I do believe that genetic diversity is important in plants and animals. Lack of genetic diversity cause the Irish Potato Famine in the 1850s (and caused part of one half of my heritage to come over the USA) because they were given only one variety of potato to plant. That variety was invaded by a disease and ALL the potatoes rotted in the ground, killing at least One Million people and causing and other million to leave Ireland. If two or three or more kinds of potatoes had been planted, at least some would have been resistant to the disease and no one would have died.

It is dangerous to only plant or breed one variety of anything. We should have learned our lesson 160 years ago.

What law are you referring to? The one about only being able to slaughter pigs on the second full moon of the summer equinox?

Seriously, I have no clue about what you are talking about. A bit more info or a link would go a long way in providing an engaging topic.

I, like many others, have no clue what you're talking about.

Nor do I have any clue as to why this is a comparison post, instead of, say, a poll. Are we comparing pig slaughtering devices or something? Hog tying? What?

There is actually no major genetic difference between domesticated pigs or feral pigs. Forcing farmers to slaughter pigs just because they "look" feral is an outrage. The government in MI needs to find something else better to do with their time than making farmers (many of whom are poor) into criminals.

I have a link to the story here:

Agreeing that you perhaps ought to have worded the poll a little better. And knowing just which law you're referring to would have been nice.

If you post a poll about it, maybe more information would be helpful as to what it is. It's just a thought.

If it's about this, than it's terrible. Simply being a breed from "feral" stock doesn't automatically make them feral.

As for invasive species... cattle anyone? Chickens? All breeds of pig are technically "invasive" to North America. Not to mention the domestic cat.

Wild boars can be dangerous, but if they're well contained, it won't be a problem. If they have so much energy to make sure all farmers with certain breeds slaughter their pigs, they should be able to inspect containment procedures instead.

Besides, I think they look cuter with fur.
