Nasal Allergies, whose got them!

Contributor: leatherlover leatherlover
I grew up in Georgia and went to school in Alabama. Besides a little bit of time as a newborn, I have had no allergies at all. But after two years of living in Virginia, my allergies really flared up. Since then, I have had to go from Claritin and an occasional nasal spray, to year around prescription pills and most of the time, a nasal spray as well. How many fellow Eden members have nasal allergies, and what do you do it reduce the effect of them?

Yep. Usually claritin/alavert work fine for me. Thankfully it seems the older I get, the less severe they are.

Most of the prescription ones don't work for me at all and the stuff you can buy over the counter makes me so tired I can't function. Last summer I decided to check what they had at the health food store and I found a spray you take orally. Its made by Liddell Labs or something like that.

I do. It's been miserable for me until I recently got on Loratadine. I use generic Loratadine because it lacks the pseudoephedrine that the brand-names have mixed in. That just makes my eyes dry out so much that I'd rather have the sinus issues. We have cedars spreading their pollen everywhere, and I'm able to survive it this year. I'm also using Veramyst nasal spray and, when it's necessary, Affrin.

Claritin came out with this allergen blocker cream. you basically take a little drop and rub it around the outside of your nostrils. the stuff dries clear. It is what I have been using for the last year (spring and fall) and it works really well.

Lol I picked a bunch of the answers. Only because it depends on my mood. I never had allergies when I was younger living in Northern Ohio. But when I moved to MD/DE border my allergies were crazy fucked up. Got sooo sooo bad, pink eye and allergies at the same time SUCK btw! lol

It seems I have allergies to soo much outside and dusty stuff. Pollen,Dust,Hay + Horses? One of the two I couldn't figure out which, I think hay though. Plus a bunch of other stuff all make my nose goo yucky.

I hate hate sneezing. Like really hate it, I hold in my sneezes even. Sneezing bothers me so much lol. I am weird.

I'm moving back to Georgia in less than a month, so hopefully then my allergies might clear up some. I'll just have to wait and see.

I used to feel like I was allergic to all things nature and had very frequent sinus headaches, itchy eyes, etc. I tried using a netti pot and honestly that wasn't very comfortable. However, the saline washing concept was effective so I got one of those bulb syringes that are used to suck up baby snot and used that to rinse the gook out of my sinuses. I still have to use medicine, but at a much lower dosage and less often for the prn nasal spray.

Yeah, have had seasonal allergies since I was 12 or 13. Last year it got so bad that I was taking 2 Benadryl and 3 Sudafed in addition to my daily Allegra, and there were still a few hours of misery each day. Itchy eyes, runny/stuffed nose, sneezing, the works. Hoping to start allergy shots this week, just as long as my insurance covers it!

Allergies suck! I get sinus headaches that can turn into multiple day migraines. I also seem to have developed lung symptoms after starting my shots and I have been on some of the nastiest pills. Right now I am getting by on my spray and the occasional pill.
I would have drainage that led to the most disgusting infections in my sinuses or throat and would be so lethargic I could sleep 20 hours straight on a regular basis. I finally started seeing an allergist last year and started immunotherapy shots, thankfully the symptoms are tolerable now but I can't wait until I am finished with the first round of shots and only have to get them once a month.

I have lived in the same city my whole life. Allergies can develop quickly as a response to new allergens introduced suddenly and they can also be a result of something that one has contact with their entire life with the symptoms slowly building up to intolerable levels.

I have them, and when they get bad I use my sinus rinse. It's a squeeze bottle that you fill with a cup of warm saline solution and you rinse out both sides of your sinuses. If I do this 1 or 2 times a day I am MUCH better. No more headaches, no more runny/itchy nose. I highly recommend a sinus rinse - there are all kinds of systems out there, and it works 10 times better than a simple nasal spray. (And as an added bonus, it makes my man laugh hysterically. lol)

I work at a night club, and there is smoking, so it's always smokey. I'm allergic to cigarette smoke, so it sucks because since a month ago, when I started, I have had scabs in my nose, nose bleeds, and been unable to breathe. Yay. So I have nasty nasal allergies to a few things, and just regular slight allergies to pollen and other things. However, I don't take anything for it.

I've been miserable all month from allergies! I've never found a medicine, RX or OTC, that has actually worked. The only thing that has ever helped is my allergist giving me injections inside my nose (um.. OWW.)

It seems so crazy to me that we're so medically advanced, but we can't come up with allergy meds that work!
