NUTS IN COOKIES OR NOT?

Contributor: Bignuf Bignuf
I love chocolate chip cookies. I also love them with WALNUTS in them. I am supposed to make a tray of them for school. What do the majority of people like in their chocolate chip cookies...just chocolate chips, chips and chunks of chocolate, or chocolate chips and walnuts??? (Or perhaps Pecans, depending on which look prettier at the store)?

THANKS for the input.

Not knowing if people have allergies to nuts I would avoid them altogether. But, if I'm just making them at home I prefer to make white chocolate chip macadamia nut chocolate cookies.

Nuts in cookies are like having shit hidden in the sand on the beach. Yes, I HATE nuts in cookies. It ruins a perfectly good cookie. You're chomping away, enjoying the texture and then "CRUNCH" it's like biting into a rock or some sand. UG. It makes me gag a little.

For me, nuts are to be eaten by themselves or in a nut butter. I think, with the exception of Tunnel of Fudge cake (which I can't make anymore because you can't get the whipped topping mixture) nothing baked is improved by putting little stones into it.

JMO.

Also, one of my kids has a terrible nut allergy, so I usually avoid them while cooking anything.

Know when to say "when"... NO nuts in cookies, esp peanuts.

Nothing is worse than this:
"Oh great cookies!"
(bite)
"AH!! What's this nut doing in here?!?! No one said these were chocolate nut cookies! Who the hell puts peanuts in with coconut!?!?"

Same goes for fudge too...

I agree on the allergy issue. Plus, if these are kids, many are very picky about cookies not having nuts. Chocolate chunks never hurt anything. You could cuten it up with a hershey kiss on each cookie or something, maybe m&ms. It kind of depends on the age range... But you can never go wrong with just basic chocolate chip cookies.

Fudge and brownies are two things that I refuse to eat with nuts. If someone made them with nuts and wants me to try, I will, but a tray of them will not be eaten by me if there's anything crunchy in there.

I've personally always found that iced sugar cookies are a huge hit with kids, especially if they can put the icing on them. I've never really been a huge fan of chocolate chip cookies, I'd rather just eat the dough.

A man after my own taste buds....

Did that sound weird?

But, it's disturbing isn't it, JR? To bite into what you assume to be a perfectly good cookie and have your entire Theta Zen-cookie state ruined by the intrusion of .... a nut!

Ahhhhh....AUGHGRGHGHGH GHGH A NUT!!!!

Obviously, the nut haters here feel quite strongly about this.

I love a strawberry and walnut salad with a sweet balsamic dressing. So yummy! Chic-fil-a had one for awhile, but I think Wendy's is trying to corner that market.

I'm with on the allergy issue. Usually schools will let you know if someone is allergic to something with peanuts in a classroom, but it's always better safe than sorry. Plus, chocolate chip cookies are amazing on their own!

I like them, but probably better to leave them out if you don't know everyone's preferences and allergies.

I'm totally with you on this, LOL! I absolutely love nuts in all things, and I also happen to love a wide variety of nuts: walnuts (especially), macadamia nuts, cashews, almonds, pistachios, pecans, hazelnuts, etc. That said, I prefer chocolate chip walnut cookies. As far as other things added to chocolate chip cookies, I also love chocolate chip coconut cookies (yum!).

Despite loving nuts, however, I must agree with the militant nut-haters here ( ) in saying that it's best to leave nuts out altogether when making them for a crowd--that is, unless you make a selection of nut-free cookies to serve alongside the (very clearly labeled) nut-enriched cookies. Too many people have nut allergies or are just strange enough to dislike nuts added to foods. I personally think people who just dislike added nuts are nutty. (Of course, I'm just kidding--really, I'm kidding! I just couldn't resist the ridiculously lame pun. )
