Pay-by-phone is coming; will you use it?

Contributor: spiced spiced
Cover and Square are phone apps which allow to pay (in restaurants, stores, etc) using only your phone. No cash or credit card required — although you do need to have the money somewhere! If you have a geo-aware phone (and you have that feature enabled), you won't even need to touch your phone. Read all about it.

Do you already use a pay-by-phone app? If not, would you use one?

I don't but I might. I mean, I frequently pay my bills online via my phone, so this might be something that I'll look into later on.

Sounds like it would be a nice idea.

I have Square, but I thought Square was only for accepting payments... not... making payments?

Like, you know, if you have a small business or a booth set up at some fair, you could accept Square payments.

I've never gotten to actually USE it, though. The craft fair we went to last year was a total bust.

Okay-- I really do not have a 1977 rotary cell phone. (Does a 1987 car cell phone brick count?? I do have one of those in storage!!)

I would not use this ap since I am very much anti cell phone savvy. I do not text or use the net on my phone and see it as a device for talking when necessary.

I would have to learn more about the security of this app before I would consider it.

Maybe once it became more main stream. I know you can already do that at Starbucks. But yeah it might be cool.

Sounds all well and good but the more electronic footprints you leave the bigger the headache of making sure you cover them up so no one can follow you and get your information.

Too scared for it to be hacked and directly linked to a bank acct. or something.

I watch any new technology & see what happens. I let others be the testers & I will only jump on the bandwagon when I see enough benefit for me to do so. I'm concerned with the security of this & will wait & see, but I really don't see a need for it in my lifestyle so I doubt I will ever use it.

I don't do any pay by phone thru any of the apps I have thru my phone. I will check my bills that is about it. I do all my stuff online or in the bank. Even online I get scared something may happen.

I don't have a smartphone at present, but I'd definitely use something like that. They can already buy things from vending machines with their phones in Korea.

I don't technically have a 1977 rotary cell-phone either, but I don't have a smart phone. I don't plan on getting one anytime soon, so no apps for me.

Nope. We use and carry cash for budgeting/money saving purposes. Pretty sure having something like that available to us would blow our budget out of the water every month!

That's me, pretty much. I'll start using it when I believe it's safe and will give me something I need and don't have. I don't mind having to reach in my wallet, but not having to keep up with a credit card would be nice.

I won't use it til it's proven secure. I'm still not banking on my phone.

I'm not sure if I'd want to use it. I suppose I'd wait and see how other people like it and for any bugs to get worked out.

I don't have a phone capable of this, but I'd probably wait a bit and see how it works for others.

I'd rather not. That would make it worse if I lose my phone and I don't think cellphones are secure enough.
