Pork and Beans, or Beans and Butter ???

I have been to a bunch of tailgate parties and I have seen a lot of people serve Pork and Beans, however, at a recent party, they had Navy Beans with JUST "butter", and another family brought plain "beans" that had been stewed in BBQ sauce.

They both said that their families did NOT eat pork (and in both cases it was NOT religious, interestingly), and those recipes were "old family favorites".

It was new to me, for sure. Both dishes were pretty good, really.

SO...does anyone else skip the Pork and Beans, but do the BEANS a different way???

I usually like Busch's baked beans, but add in a few other things to spice them up. Just a hint of spice, hint more of sweetness, and either some bbq or something bold tasting. I'm not much for plain beans, only other way I enjoy beans is in chili or Mexican food.

We buy the Maple Beans. They are terrific in chili and add salsa instead of tomatoes. Mmmmmm.... Never tried just plain buttered.

We dont eat pork iether. We usually cook our own beans with beef. If we don't use beef then we put butter in them. ( we don't mix milk or meat iether).

If I buy them from the store, I get the vegitarian beans and we put butter in them.
