Yeah, the music really aroused my sympathetic nervous system -- my fight or flight response -- and I felt "on edge" which goes against arousal (your parasympathetic nervous system is what needs to be engaged for arousal).

But I found the actual sex scenes to be very hot. The filming/camera work was absolutely stunning.

It definitely held my attention. If I didn't pay attention between the sex scenes, then the settings and actions in the scenes didn't totally make sense.

Lol that's like the first time I put it in it was late at night and the opening freaked me out a little bit.

This is exactly what drew me to the movie... I couldn't stop watching it!!

And the sex was absolutely amazing!! I loved the sexiness that was involved in them!! SOOOOO EROTIC!!!

Exactly, there's never really been a porn before that I actually wanted to discuss afterwards. My husband and I actually talked about this and it was pretty cool. I agree with a poster above who said it's a film you need to watch for the artsyness and have the sex come secondary, makes it easier to follow that way!

I understand as well. While I think it was an incredible effort and very well done, my man and I are usually just into a bit more than vanilla sex to hold our interests.

How many outfits did you go through in that movie? At least 20 it seems.

Tuesday, I suggest watching it with the director's commentary. It helped A LOT!

Agreed with you here. As a fetishist, I like those things. So intriguing to watch.

I saw it. I was hoping they'd show how that scene was filmed. A fake skin suit?

I was really surprised how little of that ended up in the movie.

Yeah, the gory stuff was not our cup of tea. We were concerned, based on the previews, that there would be lots of gore; fortunately, we found it wasn't that bad. Nothing in the movie was any worse than what was in the previews. It's just that we found it to be a little offputting...didn't stimulate or arouse us.

I don't think I ever have, which is why I enjoyed this one. Not as a porn movie, per se, but more as an interesting and good movie that happened to also have good sex scenes in it.

It reminded me so much of a "The Mars Volta" Album, I know its an obscure band but they make an album telling a story and the lyrics are metaphors and jumbled a little. You got to go in and interpret it piece by piece to find the meaning of the song. Not all the songs are in order wither so you have to reorder it to get a feel for it, and even then I might come up with something different than what someone else feels its about. It reminded me of that. I loved it..

yeah, it kept me interested, and I think I'll be going back to watch it a few times (not just for my review) as each time you watch it uit reveals a little more

It is like an onion but as movie

I didn't get to watch the entire directors commentary, but did I hear correctly that this film made shot over the course of a few years?

Sanatorium was certainly a new experience for me in a lot of ways, don't get me wrong. I just didn't expect to need director's commentary to understand it. And for me, it's hard for me to enjoy the erotic nature of a non-linear movie. I'm glad other people enjoyed it, and I intend to watch the director's commentary for a fresh perspective.

Gary and I agree. It was VERY HARD to produce this film because it's so outside the box. But it's like watching a David Lynch film, you either love the messiness or you hate it.

I LIKED the music, the beat and the sound of it, but found that it made me feel too on edge to really get into the sex scenes more. Which was a shame because they were so very well done.

Interestingly enough, when just fast-forwarding to the scenes and watching them, minus the disturbing imagery shown immediately before or after the scenes, the music did not make me feel as "on edge."
